MAY 26 Yamaha-m o un ted Craig Hitch took the 500cc Novice win a t today's Cal iforn ia Racing Club (CRC) MX at DeAnza Cycle Pa rk. Hitch beat a ll of the Novices in the second moto, but he was beat by Begi nn er winner Ro bert Hedl and (Yam ) who mixed it up with th e Novices in bo th motos. Hedlund grabbed the lead at th e start of th e first moto with Novi ces Don Abdella (Suzuki Country/MX ), Ra lp h Tumball (Yam), and Pasadena H o nda 's Daniel Stilwell following. By lap two Hedland had a few seconds on Abd ella who led a close formati on co n sis tin g of Stilwell , Hitch, a nd Robert T emple (Yam) . The battle for seco nd moved in on Hedla nd on the next la p , a nd wh en Abde lla went down at th e end of lap four Temple moved into seco nd and q uickl y closed th e gap on Hedland. A couple of laps la ter T emple gai ned th e lea d and pu lled aw a y for the win . H edl and was left in second a nd barel y hel d off Turnba ll and Stilwell to tak e seco nd and first Begin ner.
