Baker, Smith romp Interstate MX By Tim Tolleson OK LAHOMA CITY, OK , FEB. 17 Chan Bak er rode hi s Honda CR500 to a h ard-earned win , ultimately taking home th e Open Expert purse at th e In tersta te MX Park in Oklahoma. Later , Bak er rode a bo rrowed Su zuki to a respectabl e third-place finish in th e 250cc Experts , beh ind th e Yam ahas of Whisperin' Smith an d Greg Theiss. More than 150 rid ers took adva n tage of th e un seasonabl y warm weather to com pe te in th e even t, Baker pu lled a big hol eshot in the first Open Expert moto over Alvin Myers (Hon ), SCOIl Cook (Han) a nd Mik e H ammer (H on), Baker im mediatel y began to stre tch hi s lead while Cook , Hammerand Yamaha-mounted Jim Thomas pa ssed Myers.Thomas then pa ssed H ammer and began to pr esure Cook. Honda p ilot Donnie Vance th en pulled ou t th e sto ps, and d ispat ch ed Myers and Hammer to o uch upwith the Thom as-Cook hattie for seco nd.
