Robert McCay has made th e move up from the Minis to the I25ccclass a successfu l one here at Corona Racewa y: Tonight . he took th e win in the 125cc Novi ce class. David Wodaszewski (Mid Cities H o nda ). a nother rider fresh from th e Min i ranks. holes hot the start of the first moto ahead of P . Alamangos (Suz) and J erry J etto n (Suz). Alamangos squeezed by Wodaszews ki in a tight tu rn early on the first la p , and J etton passed h im on lap two, along wi th McCay (P VK). Jetton quickly closed in on Alamangos and took the lead, as McCay moved into seco nd on the same lap. It wasn 't lo ng before McCay was challenging Jetton for first , and , wi th two laps to go, h e sto le th e lea d amongst a p ack o f slower tra ffic. McCa y th en moved a way to tak e th e win, with J etton seco nd a head o f Char les Gonzales (Ka w) a nd A lama ngos. Wodaszewski agai n got th e lead at th e sta rt of moto two, bu t Brvan Petr ie (l\I/C Co un trv/ Kaw). McCay, a nd J etton dropped h im to fourt h on the first lap. Petrie had managed to open a sma ll lead , but McCay quickly closed the gap a nd began to cha llenge him for first place a nd th e two riders set o u t to do batt le, leaving J etton behind in third . McCa y worked on Petri e a nd wa s very close as th ey took th e white fla g . Com in g o u t o f th e fin al turn . Petrie encou ntered a fall en rider th at wa s just getti ng going aga in and th e two nearl y collidedover th e next jump. T h is a llo wed McCay to pull a lo ngs ide as th ey headed for th e fin ish lin e, but Petri e blocked McCa y's lin e a nd took th e win by a few in ch es.
