But Glover (ound a faster way through the S-turns and emerged a full second in front for the victory. Montoya was second and Lugliani a distant third. In the Formula One race, the start looked like many this season. Denny Doherty on his Motors West Kawasaki took the lead. Ed Woo on his TZ750 was slower oH the line than the four-strokes, but he soon shot past them. What was unusual was the fact that Woo couldn't catch one o( the bikes, a Healdsburg Cycle GS750 Superbike piloted by Scott Grey. Doherty also got a surprise when Grey shot past him in the first lap and started to pull away. Doherty gave chase, but Grey, getting in some practice for a planned Pro season next year, lengthened his lead. Doherty got another surprise late in the race when Woo got by him in the turn II hairpin. Doherty took up the chase again and closed on Woo in the last lap, but he backed off and settled for third. His tires and shocks were overheated and ") got real sideways and decided that I'd rather finish behind Woo than not finish." A points race was on the line in 600cc Superstreet as well as the day's victory on the track. Walter Nitto has dominated the class, and had already sewn up the club's number one plate, but the number two through number 10 plates were still up for grabs. Ed Ragle was second in the standings, but only nine points ahead of £ifthplace Mark Ruffner. When the green flag dropped, Nitto found his usual place in the lead, but Allan Yarrow on a Yamaha single and Wade Boyd on a stock RZ500 were close behind. After one lap, Nitto was in front, but RuHner was all over him, trying to pass. Boyd was third, (ollowed by Ragle and Jeff Murray on a refugee from a motocross, a Yamaha TT600. Nitto and RuHner pulled away from Boyd who was having problems with ground clearance. He later said "This is my street bike with licks on it ... I couldn't get too crazy, I have to ride it to work." Murray moved past Ragle as the leaders strung out late in the race. He closed on Boyd in the final laps and used the long travel suspension to motor pa t Boyd who was banging his fairing on the bumps. The final order was itto, RuHner and Murray. Ragle took (ifth, allowing RuHner to move past him in the standings by one point. Results FORMULA I: 1. Scott Grey (Suzl; 2. Edwin Wood (Yam); 3. Denny Doheny (K.w). FORMULA II: 1. Carr continues at Lodi scrambles By Bill Spencer Lom, CA, SEPT. 30 The Camel Pro Series' toprated Junior Chris Carr, found an open date from the National tour and tripped out to the track where he got his start and doubled in fine Pro-Am event. Carr continues to astound many while even more are firm believers that this kid is yet the greatest to come down the flat-track motorcycling pike. An early fall storm greeted practice for the nearly 100 competitors and after its passing, somewhat fewer were left with a modified track eliminating the over-and-under jump but still leaving lots of room for exciting racing_ Pee-Wee's were great as Mike Cronk diced with Kenny Schneider for the first spot and that order o( finish while Shawn Raggio faired beller than pops taking third. Young Mall Wait topped the 60cc Juniors while Tony McBride was best in the Novice portion and it looks like the littlest of the Knight family is finally riding, with Ronnie winning the 80cc Novice over lach Taylor and that should be about seven Knight family members. Aaron Hill and Brvan McDowell worked hard on each other in the 250cc Pro section but Carr and the Jorgy Can-Am had a better idea in the infield section and passed both with Jon Nunez fourth on the Henningson Construction Suzuki. Scott Eichelbaugh topped a combined TT class of I 25-25Occ Novices and Juniors on his Yamaha while John Holland rode a finely-tuned race to pass and beat Joe Pineda in their respective battle. Bryan McDowell g-ot his due in the 500cc Experts taking the top spot over a hard-charging Donnie Stommel. Jon Eichelbaugh rode his little two-stroke to third over not-so-Iittle Adam Sabedra. Fifth was Jim Donnell over a large-returning TT ace wild Will Flett complete with XR750 H-D. Mark Key got the jump in the big time 500cc Pro class on board the BluArc Rotax of Don Hollingsworth. He held the point over Hill'sTTYamaha and Sal HoHman with Carr working around all of them in some fine styling that saw him take the lead and then run off and hide on his Blendzall/Shoei/Wood-Rotax. Fifth score was Harold Raggio who some might remember leading Kenny Roberts in a heat race at the old Sacto fairgrounds TT in 1970. Dan McDonnell and older brother Robert were the next two and their age wouldn't add up to Raggio's while Frank Sanchez finished eighth over Adam Sebedra and both of their fathers were quite the 40-inch Experts in their day. • Results VETS: 1.
