.t, TEri YEARS .AGO· Lane Leavitt won the last two rounds of the North American Trials Council championship series 10 take the first NATC crown. The unofficial points standings had Marland Whaley in second, followed by Team Yamaha rider Don Sweet. Gerrit Wolsink took his Suzuki 10 a 1-11 victory in the Orlando, Florida round of the Trans-AMA series over Husky-mounted Arne Kring in the 500cc division. Roger DeCoster was the victim of a first-molO DNF when he suffered a piston seizure. Brad Lackey was top American in fourth. Marty Smith (Hon) took his second, overall-win in as many weeks in the 250cc Suppoh class, with a I-I score. Husky rider Kent Howerton rode 10 a 2-2 second overall, ahead of Bultaco's Jim Pomeroy. After numerous protests and counterprotests, the results from the run-inMay Greenhorn Enduro were finalized. Nate Sciacqua nabbed theoveralJ win on a 250 Yamaha, dropping nine points. Bultaco's Bob Steffan scored 12 points, 10 be in a four-way tie for second. Steffan got the nod over Bud Houseman, Gary Calkins and 250 Honda-mounted Marv Munyon. Honda rider Mike Bell was crowned as Continental Motosport Club's new number one rider after winning the 125cc Pro class at Carlsbad Raceway. Ray Lopez and Bob Marino completed a Honda sweep. In the 250cc Pro class, Gaylon Mosier took his Wheelsmith Maico to top honors over Jeff Vidic and Kawasaki rider Jim Cooke. Mike Bast gained the California Long Track Championship at Irwindale, California, with a near-perfect score of 14. FOTlhe first time ever, a Second Division title was awarded; Jim Fishback used his desert talents to receive that one. A last-lap crash by Hank Scott handed the last-race viclOry at Ascot's half mile 10 Yamaha-mounted Danny Hackie. John Gennai also crashed in the last turn, forfeiting second spot to Charlie Seale, on a Harley. John Sperry finished third in front of DeWayne Keeter (Yam) and Mert Lawwill, (H-D). Walter Foster (Tri) and Tom Kopriva (Yam) went 1-2 in the Junior portion of the program, while Dan McWhorter (Yam) finished in front of the Novice pack; Yamaha pilot Steve Eklund was second, With it being the last race, the 1974 Ascot Season Point Champs were crowned, Norton's Rob Morrison took the top honors in the Expert class; Alex Jorgensen (Tri) was first Junior; McWhorter claimed the Novice title. Mark Williams (Tri) was the lOp point-scorer in the Pacific Region of the AMA Regional Championships in the Expert class. Other Regional Expert class winners were Billy Eves on a Triumph (Atlantic Region) and Harley rider Corky Keener (H-D) for· the MidweSiAilgion..
