The longest season in AMA Grand National
Championship history was compressed into
a span of approximately 50 seconds during
the Stroh's Springfield Mile in deciding
whether Ricky Graham or
Bubba Shobert would wear
Number One. In the end, the
title went to Graham by one
12
point, 285 to 284, after Shobert finished second to Ted Boody and Graham limped home 13th.

ham, who led Shobert by 15 points
going into the rescheduled running
of the October 14 rain out, and Shobert, who was in a must-win situation, in his hands. Boody played the
pivotal role in the outcome. Heading

Pro Series crown firmly in his grasp,
and Boody tangled handlebars while
dueling for the lead with Graham
