Other new features include disc front brakes and forged aluminum alloy rear brake pedals with ball bearings at the pivot. Husky's XC cross-country bikes also feature single-shock rear suspension. The range of WR enduro machines will continue with dual-shock chassis; the WR250 shown here has a new center-port water-cooled engine and dual radiators. Watch for details on all the 1985 Husqvarnas soon. Doug Chandler and Randy Goss, who were both injured when they crashed at the September 16 San Jose Mile, are out of the hospital and recuperating. Chandler was released Tuesday morning, September 18, and the final report on him is that he broke a small bone in his left hand and he may be back in action in two weeks. Goss got out of San Jose Hospital a few days later and was staying with a friend in northern California, Terry Sage. With a broken leg, Goss will be out for the rest of the season. 4 Eight new mOLOrcycle records were set during the September 15-21 Bonneville Salt Flats Speed Week. Ted Gannberger led the assault on the record books with a 189 mph oneway run and a 183 mph two-way average on a turbocharg d Honda 750 running on fuel. Rain and water on the course and in the pits delayed the stan of the runs and the on-again, off·again stalUs of the event keptlhe number of entrants down LO approximately 40 bikes and 100 cars. Among the interesting cars entered was the five-wheel streamliner of Don Vesco which began life as Vesco's twin-Kawasaki 1300 powered mOLOrcycle streamliner a few years back. KX Kawasaki powervalves for 1985 The 1985 Kawaseki KX125, and KX250feature Kawasaki Integrated Power valve System (KIPS), designed to boost both low-end and high-rpm power. The system, built entirely into tha cylinder, seems to combine features of Honda's ATAC exhaust sub-chamber with Yamaha-style powervalves. At low rpm, a rack rotates two powervalves to close off auxiliary exhaust ports; one of the two powervalves also opens a passegeway leading to an exhaust resonator chamber. At high rpm the powervalves rotate to open the exhaust sub-ports and close the passageway to the resonator chamber. A mechanical governor driven off the crankshaft operates the powervalves. The KX125 has43mm forks with three preload adjustment settings and eight compression damping adjustment settings. The 125's rear shock has an automatic heat compensator system to prevent shock fade. The shock also has four settings for high-speed compression and four settings for low-speed compression damping. The bike's front disc brake is also larger. The KX250 has a new semi-double-cradle frame to clear the new center-port exhaust. The 250 has larger radiators for 1985, and those radiators are mounted lower. As pictured (along with the KX125 and KX250) in Cycle News, August 29, the new KX500 has an all-new water-cooled engine and a new chassis to match. $625,OOO-plus price tag put , on proposed '86 GP road race TUCKER,GA,SEPT.24 The September 10 issue of Special Events Report - "The International Biweekly Newsletter on Events, Festivals & Promotions" - reports that the American Motorcyclist Association is seeking sponsorship for a proposed 1986 World Championship Road Race Series round, next year's Superbike and Formula Two Championship Road Race Series, and a proposed 11 event televised Mile Series, part of the Camel Pro Series. According to Special Events Report, "The AMA... has designed sponsorship packages appropriate for companies targeting males with a median age of 24 and a median annual household income of $17,500." The AMA is seeking a cash fee of $625,000 "and event promotion" for the proposed 1986 American GP, and in return is offering "10 on officials' uniforms. licensed clothing, signage, on-site announcements and use of AMA logo in company advertising." In addition, the AMA says, "ABC-TV has expressed interest in live coverage." Seeking a comparable fee with the addition of TV production costs for the proposed Mile Series, the AMA is offering "all TV coverage and on-site 10." The AMA would also require contestants to display sponsor 10 on their bikes "to. be eligible for the point fund." Sponsorship is also being sought for the '85 Superbilce Championship Series, which the AMA says will consist of 12 races including the Daytona 200. They are also promising sponsors that at least four events will be telecast. According to Special Events Report, "Title sponsorship for the (Superbike) series is $375,000, plus promotion and production costs." Finally, Special Events Report says the AMA is asking $200.000 plus promotionat support for the Formula Two Series. Just 30 minutes after Brian Manley won the 250cc race at the September 16 SCORE Off Road World Championships at Riverside Raceway, someone stole his 1984 Honda CR250. A reward is offered for recovery of the bike, which has a works-style swingarm and Ohlins shock. The bike's frame number is JH2ME037EC605515;theengine number is 2605314.
