Cruickshank had initial difficulty gelling past Ron YamamoLO (Hon), Mike Sullivan (Hon) and Rotaxmounted Mickey Fay. Fay, after winning Friday's Oregon regional, found himself being showered by Cruickshanks rear wheel and ended up sixth, while Cruick hank did a number on Green to take second behind Wick at the flag. Expens Richie Hayman (Tri 750), Strong (HD) and Fay (560) rode in a LOp-five draft. Strong sellied inLO third behind Green and YamamoLO only LO go out with electrical problems putting Wick in third. Cruickshank, aboard the smallest machine on the the track, put the throllie LO its SLOpS while being pursued by Fay and Hayman. Fay's 750 Harley went belly up in practice and the Team Harley rider used his 560cc Rotax to hold down fifth some distance behind Green and Yamamoto, who dueled until the ninth lap when YamamoLO nabbed the lead and went on LO take the $1000 first-place payoff over Green, who slipped off the dry slick groove and held Wick off for second. Hoenshell survived a second-moto confrontation with Daft and scored wins in both molOS. Hoenshell powered his RM500 to the holesliot in molO one over Hondamounted Mike Hammer, Yamaha Support's Daft and Chan Baker of OK Honda. By the end of the second lap, Hoenshell put over four seconds on Hammer, who had a second on the Daft/Baker duel. On the next lap Hammer went down in a hairpin left, and Daft almost joined him but held his advantage over Balcer. Hoenshell steadily pulled away and finished 10 seconds ahead of Daft, who held off Baker for second. Daft was out for revenge in the second moLO. He holeshot his YZ250 over Hoenshell and Greg Brown. As things got physical in tbe first turn, Hoenshell almost went down as Brown railed 'his M-Srar around the outside into second. Hoenshell quickly regained his composure, dispatched Brown in turn two and set his sights on Dafl. Kawasaki rider Jim Cone and Baker also passed Brown and settled into a fight for third while Hoenshell closed on Daft. On the third lap Hoenshell made his move on the back straight but Daft kept his 250 pegged. They flew over the last jump side by side and remained that way lo the end of the straight, where Daft found himself on the outside of the turn. Hoenshell slammed the door on Daft and never looked back. Hoenshell flew lo the win over Daft, Cone and Baker, whose 3-4 night earned him third overall. 00 s~\·\~ O~ Hoenshell bombards Oklahoma Fall MX Series opener • 198 ••....- Results PEE WEE: 1.
