Orr BOYD, TX, JULY 28 Scott Scherb, on a McCu tcheon Electric-sponsored Honda, took the bounty being offered in the Open Senior short track main at Mike Kidd's Hillside Raceway. Making it look easy, Scherb won the first three weeks the $1 OO-a-week bounty was offered, to walk off with $300 plus the regular purse. Shan Stovall took the heat race win ahead of john Gladwill, witb Scherb in third place. Stovall, Andy West and Kenny Tolbert went around the number two corner ahead of the pack in the main, but Scherb had committed LO the high outside line. With a hard drive off the turn Scherb shot past the three Pro Experts before they knew he was there. He never looked back. Tolbert moved by West for third place, then diced with SLOvall for second. Stovall got the nod at the line, half a straightaway behind Scherb. The 250cc juniors put on an exciting performance on the short track. After inching up on starter Mike George in the first heat, Trace Polson, Dale Brooks and Alan Powers got to start from the back row. Polson was iDlO the lead coming out of the number twO corner, with Powers close behind him, to take the win in heat one. The second heat had LO be redflagged when two riders went down in the first corner. Chad McCracken was quickly up, but Tim Sanderson was not so fortunate. Sanderson's foot was tangled in the rear wheel and shock of McCracken's motorcycle and the ambulance had LO be used. On the restart, Willie McCoy took the lead ahead of Rocky Fivecoat and McCracken for a wire-to-wire win. Polson got the holeshot in the main ahead of Ronnie Roberts, Powers and Fivecoat, with McCoy in fifth. Moving down the back chute, Powers and McCoy took over second and third. On lap three McCoy passed p'owers in turn four and held on till the last corner, when Powers got the drive off turn four and took second by inches ahead of McCoy. Polson stayed just ahead of the pair to take the win on his Honda Town/Kissinger Auto Supply air-cooled Honda in a beautiful race. r=-="===- YAMAHA PARTS WAREHOUSE Vemlha of Downera Grow feature' • hug. mnntory of genuine Vlmahe petta, .. well . . . complete mock of lIfterrnwket eccaaooiea. Cox cooks in CMC Madera small fry MX baffle By Beverly McCrory MADERA, CA, JULY 28 Corena Cox and Jeff McCrory again battled for 50cc Pee Wee honors in the fourth round of the Petty Products-sponsored Little Okie Series at this Continental Motorspons Club-sanctioned track. In the first mota Cox took the lead off the start, a regular practice that has earned her the nickname, "Queen of the Holeshol." "Mad Dog" McCrory was in second, and soon caught up to Cox at the double jumps. Caught by surprise, Cox crashed and McCrory went on for the mota win with Cox remounting for second. Cox took another holeshot in the second mota, and again McCrory soon caught up. This time they banged bikes and it was McCrory who hit the ground. By the time McCrory did get going he had dropped to third - where he finished - but he did take second overall. The baltle between the two will no doubt continue. With two' rounds left, Cox has a slim 52-49 lead in the points. Kevin McCrory (Jeff's cousin) put his Kawasaki into the lead of the I25cc junior class, only to be passed by Honda rider Pete Snyder. After the pass McCrory fell off the pace, and soon found himself accompanied by Mark Gumz. The two charged into a tight -corner together, banged bikes, and McCrory wound up on the ground, in last place. Snyder went on to win the maLO while McCrory passed rider after rider, finally nailing a surprised Gumz over the doubles to take second. In the second mota McCrory again took the lead followed by Snyder. This time it was Snyder who tasted dirt when he tucked into a berm, but be went on LO finish second for the same overall behind McCrory. Gumz was again third. Results PEE WEE 50: 1.
