Monteu rider SCott HucI outscored Kip Webb to take the Expert cleuwin
at the Granite tria.. in Norden. Califomia,
/(Kaw), Wade Anton (Yam). Wayne
Church (Kaw) and Earle. Earle got
0(( dead last, but late in the mOlD. he
had caught all but Fox and Whelchel, which would be the (in ish order.
Moto two had Earle. Bever and
Reader lead. but a pile-up took out
Earle, Whelchel and Church. When
the dust cleared, it was Anton's RW
Racing YZ in the lead ahead o( (irstmoLO winner Fox. Earle again worked
(rom last to mid-pack by the half.
Anton and Fox put on the best display o( warfare o( the day and swapped
leads, until Fox took it (or good to
beat a tiring Amon, Reader. Earle
and Church.
A special Open GP was held immediately after the (inal motoo( the day,
which was the Open/250 contest. Bill
enks (Mai) roosted 0(( the line to
ead the dead engine-started race,
while Earle started once again in last
aher failing to boot his N-D/BelRay/Seer/LOP CR500 to li(e. Jenks
was (aced with one problem though
- twelve-year-old Daily, on his Kawasaki support ride. was tearing up
. the track looking (or a line around
the 500cc Maico. Daily gained enough
ground 0(( "Leach's Lump" to sail
into the lead. Alan Rogers (Hon 5(0),
Randy King (Yam) and Earle held
down top five positions on lap eight
o( the ten-lap race. Earle picked 0((
King. Rogers and Jenks to settle into
second behind Daily, and possibly
would have caught the Kawasaki
80cc pilot with an extra lap. Daily
jubilantly took the win beating resident Rogers.

behind Lindsey. Three circuits later
he was on Lindsey's tail. and the two

Cook made his move at the flag, nipping Lindsey by inches.

Firestine in their last 250cc Pro outing. it was a (oregone conclusion
who would win today; Firestine does
not like to lose. He stole both hole- .
shots and never looked back. H he
had. he would have seen Dave Newell
instead o( ·Warren. Newell (ollowed
Firestine across the (inish line both
rounds in (rom o( Warren.
The cream rose to the top in the
80cc Expert class. Brant McCoy and
Darren DeLoach, the top two contenders (or the stale championship,
finished one-two respectively. McCoy
chased Derek Brown the entire first
moto before zapping him 'for the win
on the (inallap.
The second round was a private
baule between the two hotshoes. McCoy was on top (or the (irst four laps
before succumbing to DeLoach, but
regained the lead lWO laps later. DeLoach went back around McCoy on
the next circuil and kept the lead to
the finish.
