(Below) John Holmes moves pen. felling Steve Kendall in the 125cc Intermediates at Corona. was riding his best race to date as Carter inspected the haH mile track looking for a way around former minicyde champions Blagg and Cannon, who displaced Carter for third. Carter was later nabbed by Jack "Bugsby" Booth's ROlaX H-D 500. Blagg rode alone in firsl until Cannon picked up Ihe pace and chased him all the way to the Oag. Blagg got his first Pro win in style 10 beat Cannon, Booth, Carter, Zirbel and Roose for first place payof£. Fast heat/time trials winner Ryan Fisher (W-R) sat on the pole position in the Junior main and jumped into the lead, only to be met with a red Oag. A massive pile-up nixed action but after things were back to normal it was Fisher, Brian McGonigal, (Rtx), Mattocks, Fitzhugh and Terry Wahl (C-A), comin~ out of the dog leg. Fisher was riding spectacularly, leaving second-place Fitzhugh way back but a sour twist of fate put the stops on another Regional win. Fisher's demise put Fitzhugh inlO the lead for three la~ until he too had disaster strike wtth a front Oat. The new leaders, Mattocks and McGonigal, fought it oUlthe remaining three laps, swapping back and forth with Mattocks lucking 10 the inside of the final turn and beating McGonigal by a wheel. Fitzhugh finished third, struggling 10 hold off Wahl, Steve Kendig (Hon) and Bob Moran (H-D). The Expert main event at the biggest Northwest Regional lined up eight National numbers, three rookies and one graded Expert (or the 20lapper. Jeff Camobell and his Can'. ~ Am" turned in;a~~Iid'~holesh~' ; 2 leading Fary, Green and Cali(ornian Larry Legarra. Fay emerged in the lead on lap two as the 12 final iSIs launched off the TT jump. Fay, Campbell and Green pulled away from the Legarra/Hurst/ Word/McDaniel/Sullivan bailie. Green and Campbell gunned for second with Green getting by Campbell at the midway point. Barkman came from nowhere to nab LegaiTa late in the main but found thai Fay, Green and Campbell were long gone. Fay Iode in the same fashion that took him across the line for the win in the previous night's Oregon $5,000 Regional and putthe molO on Green and Campbell until Green got a late charge but Fay wouldn't be stopped. Green also rode consistently with seconds both nights, beating Campbell, Barkman, Legarra and Sullivan and also taking a hunk ofthe $15,000 offered (or the big TT weekend. Results EX: 1. Mi...... RAPID CITY, D, JULY 15 Round ix of the Borderline Racing A sociation's 1984 Championship Motocross eries moved into Rapid City unday, where Dave Molder and Billy ~ 00 38 Molder, Stork • super.n South Dakota MX tork went home with the three Profe sional cia overalls between them, as Molder doubled-up in the Opens and 250 , while Stork grabbed the 125cc LOp slol. As the 250cc Pros opened the action, Mike Friend put his Honda into the lead, while Stace Waugh, Stork, Mol· derand Lynn Hyde gave chase. Molder forced his way past Waugh into second, but Friend remained in command for Ihe remainder of the race. In trying 10 advance up LO the leaders, SlOrk went down and dropped back into ninth position with just over half of the race to go_ Stork could only work back into the sixth place behind Cun Hyde before the checkers flew. Friend rolled in with the win ahead of Molder, Lynn Hyde and Waugh. Friend again took the hoIeshot as the second 250cc Pro molO hit the firsl corner, with Molder, SlOrk, Curt Hyde and Brian George behind. In the third corner Molder dropped his CR and fell 10 seventh. Two corners later, Friend hit a fast right-hand berm wide open and broke through the silty embankment, putting Stork in from, with Hyde and George close behind. Stace Waugh took third slot, then a corner later Molder went riding by George, who broke through a berm and crashed. Molder proceeded 10 pick off Hyde and Waugh to move into second, but Stork was too tough to get by for the lead. All Molder needed to win the overall was a second place, since Friend's motor seized late in the race. Stork took the checkered flag first in the moto, but Molder's consistent second place ride earned him the overall top spot for the class. Third in the moto was Waugh, ahead of Lynn Hyde, and Kevin Forrester. One-twenty-five Pro action in round one saw Friend grab the holeshot and led the first half o( the moLO before SlOrk came up 10 challenge. Molder ran a close second until Stork slipped by. Stork dogged Friend from the founh lap on, umil finally taking the lead with only two laps to go. Friend sellied for second, well ahead of Molder, LeeVern Berry and Dale Ruggles. Ruggles grabbed the holeshot in the second 125cc Pro molO, with Berry, SlOrk, Molder and Scott Ray behind. Friend suffered a miserable stan and had to come from the back of the pack to catch the leaders. Berry and SlOrk quickly dispersed Ruggles, as did Molder later in the same lap. Stork had to finish ahead o( Friend to assure himself of the overall, so he simply trailed Berry to the finish, where he look the lOp honors. Berry racked up enough points for second overall to Friend's third. . Results 125 PRO: 1. Billy Stork (Hun); 2. L.Va," Berry (Kaw); 3. Mika Friend (Han). 250 PRO: 1. Oa.. Mold.r (Hon); 2. CA, J LY 13 Friday the 13th brought bad luck to some riders tonight at Corona Raceway, while others were able to take advantage of their opponents' misfonune . This was the way th ings went in the firsl division o( 250cc Beginners as Bill Getzlaff (Hon) rode consistently and capitalized on Jim Neeld's bad luck 10 win the class. Neeld took command o( the first molO right from the stan as he led Getzlaff and Kawasaki-mounted Scon Harris through tum one. Ken Behm (Suz) and Eddie Edmonds ballied over fourth as the leaders pulled away on the first lap. By lap three Neeld held a few seconds on Getzlaff and Harris wasn't far behind in third. A banIe for first began to shape up. Geulaff moved LO within striking distance of Neeld as they encountered lapped riders. But the showdown never occured as Neeld broke free and pulled a few seconds clear. Neeld crossed the line for the win over Getzlaff as Harris maintained third_ Edmonds got the holeshot at the stan for moto two and showed Gilben Leds, GetzIaff, and Behm the way through the first corner. Neeld's luck turned sour as he came around nearly lasl. GetziaU passed Leds on the second lap, and Neeld's luck went (rom bad 10 worse when he went off the track. Edmonds had buill a com· fortable lead by the halfway mark, and Harris swept by both Behm and Leds in one turn to take over third. Getzlaff got on the gas and closed the gap on Edmonds in the late stages of the race. With just over a lap remaining, Getzlaff was on the Kawasaki pilot's rear fender and threatening to pass. GetzlaH began to ease the pace near molO'S end, allowing Edmonds LO take the win unchallenged. The overall went LO Getzlaff with a 2-2 score, and Edmonds.got second. Harris took another third for third overall. Results PEE WEE 9-: 1. Mike Meauer (Hunt 2. Ben Phslen (Klwt 3. Juon c.rroII (KIw). • PEE WEE 10+: Joel Albrecht (Klwt 2. James C.,mIdt (Hon~ 3.
