Bowman, Snorfeland have a Super Sunday By Tom Griffith VALENCIA, CA, JUNE 10 American Motocross Enterprises kicked off its Budweiser Super Sunday Series at Indian Dunes Cycle Park, with U.S. Suzuki rider Gary Bowman taking the overall 250cc Pro win after he jumped out to an early lead in moto one, followed closely by Team Tamm/Answer/Scolt rider john Whelchel on his Honda. Seeking a way around the Suzuki, Whelchel tried and tried, but Bowman kept slamming the door. At mid-race, Whelchel seemed to be gaining but suddenly the Honda was nowhere to be found; he ran out of gas. Pete Snorteland had his Yamaha/HiPoint YZ right there to take over second. In the 12-lap second 250cc Pro moto, Bowman and Holley attacked the; course at the drop of the gate. But as the dust settled, Bowman was down in turn orie. With Holley going uncontested wire-to-wire Cor the win, the pack shuffled itself with handlebar to handlebar battles. Bowman had remounted and was working his way through the pack. He was up to third by the eighth lap. Sitting in second, Snorteland's rear tire started to go flat just as the battle with Bowman became most heated. Bowman dove inside with two laps remaining for the second-place finish to secure the overall win followed by Holley's 3-1 tally in second overall and Snorteland in third with a good 2-3 effort. Snorteland doubled-up, riding the Open Pro class against regulars Mark White and john Drury. With the lead secure for about two-thirds of the race, White suddenly was faced with Snorteland breathing down his back. The two Yamaha riders pressed their skills to the limit, displaying an outstanding show of their talents. At the wire the order was Snorteland•.White and Drury. Grabbing the lead at the second moto start, White, on his O'NeaIlKal.Gard/lnt'l Yamaha machine, again moved to the front. By race's end, Snorteland managed the win for first overall with White taking a solid ride to 2-2 score in second. The Mini Beginners found themselves shuffled to race #13, with a full gate of snarling KXs, RMs & YZs eager to do battle. From the start, the returning Robert Curcuru on his YZ80 and the Suzuki of Gino Lancelotti dominated the field running firm I-I and 2-2 scores for first and second overall. These two were definitely ready for moving to the junior class as they left even third-place finisher Reza Rassai far back in the field. Results PEE WEE JR: 1. Eddie Moraga (y.m); 2.
