The Mouse proved this in the second round of National MOLOspon Association's Grand National Championship competition held at the Dunes by sweeping both the 125cc Stock and Modified Intermediate races. The JT/Kawasaki racer McCoy took the lead with the stan of the 125cc Stock Intermediate race. Cory Faller held a LOp position until he fell on a downhill. Jim Perry put his Kawasaki imo second place with Bryan Nelson and Wild Willie Surratt after him. Surrau became wild and passed Nelson LO takeover third place. Terry Szucsko, known as "Cisco Kid", held the lead in the final round. Roben Naughton was in second followed by Surrau and McCoy. Naughton fell near the finish area and advanced Surrau and McCoy to second and third. Szucsko's rally came LO an end as he lost the lead to Surrau over a set of jumps and cominued but crashed badly off a jump past the finish. A two man battle was seen from that poim on between Surrau and McCoy. As they approached the finish area, McCoy made a great pass to take Lhe win. Surrall was second ahead of Dan Crouch and Lance Rieman. McCoy took the holeshot in the opening round of the I25cc Modified Imermediatecontest. On the first lap, he got out of shape once but other than that it was a clean win. Szucsko held second place over Shane Johnson and Jeff Segale. The crash of the moLO was performed by Segale on a corner past the finish and was out for the day. While McCoy maintained the LOp position, Surrall advanced to second place ahead of Johnson and Rieman. Szucsko had his shareof hard luck throughout the day and in the final moto, he took the lead bu t lost it on the first lap. McCoy advanced to first place ahead of Nelson. and Szucsko. Nelson ended up with a DNF and Szucsko moved back LO third after Rieman made the pass for second. Results PEE \/\lEE STK: ,. Demon Huffmlln (Yam); 2. Devid Ochoa (Ylm); 3. Drake CAMP WOOD AZ, MAY 27 "I alway like a challenge makes it more fun," said Kent Miller after he overcame a bad start and tough competition to take the overall and 250cc Expen honors at the Arizona De en Racing Association's 7th annual Prescott Moumain 100. The Arizona Husqvarna/Ma1colm Smith Products' rider posted a time of 3:49 in covering 105 milesoftonuous, rocky moumain trail, and took his founh consecutive overall win of thi event. But Miller had to really work for this one. One bike started every 10 seconds, and when Miller was scheduled LO start, he was still scrambling inLO his gear, finally staning three minutes late. Din Unlimited's Mark Hildebrand was first off and he kept his YZ250 in from for most of the first lap until a run-in with a pine Lreeended his lead and put him imo the pits for a long time with spark arreSLOr problems. Mike Powers, riding a CR250 for Camelback Honda, then took physical lead and held it to the finish, ending up with second OA, 250cc Expert at 3:51 :33. KTM America/County Cycle rider Paul Benneu was always in the top four and finished th ird OA. third 250cc Expen at 3:56:56 just three seconds quicker than Ganh weetland, who was fourth. Fighting his way through traffic, Miller did not break into the top 10 umil after check four on the first lap, but was running founh by check one on Lhe second. Jerry Johnston regained founh by check two, but Kent sailed past again by three and held that posi tion for the rest of the lap. Doing most of his passing on the roughest pan of the course, MiHer staned LO reel-in Powers, and was just two minutes back at check three. By four he was 45 seconds back, and finished only 38 seconds after Powers. With the Expens being dominated by 250s, the first Open Expen, Gary Tuffin on a XR500 sponsored by Sunnyslope Honda, finishing eighth overall, at 4:32:00. Beginners, the Over the Hill Gang, 30+ Sportsmen and Dinosaurs went for one loop and another 250 won, this one belonging LO beginner Scou Kindler. He was followed by a member of the OTHG, Bryon Farnsworth, who showed us a thing or two from his 500 Husky. But the real sLOry here was Tom Rowland's ride in the Dinosaurs. Rowland found a clean (?) '72 CB350 Honda street bike, threw on some knobs and high pipes, pushed the staner bUllon, and seeing Bob Patock was having trouble with his old C:Z, cruised to the win. Results 200 EX: 1.
