By Brian George SPEARFI H, D, JUNE 3 Over 150 riders converged upon Spearfish Raceway for the Borderline Racing Association's Championship Series, and Benny Norfolk, on his Yamaha Shop YZ125, rode to the overall victory circle in the l25cc Pros without winningeither malO, as first-malO winner LeeVern Berry and second molO winner Mike Friend ran into difficulties in their other ride. Friend came back in the 250cc section to grab top honors, waugh, while in the Open category Lynn Hyde nipped Perry Bicek in each malO for the overall. Open Pros were first out of the gate, and as the pack headed into the first turn, Kim Bendigo was in the lead, with Bicek, Eddie Porter, AI Hermanson and Hyde rolling in behind. Bicek quickly took over the lead as Hyde worked in behind Bendigo on the opening lap. AIter Hyde slipped past the runner-up, it was a two-rider slugfest to the checkers. Hyde ran a close second to Bicek the entire way, but could not get enough steam built up to slide by. The battle raged into the final lap, and one turn from the finish, Bicek was till in command. Then, 50 yards from the finish, Bicek overshot a berm, allowing Hyde lO 1'0.11 past and grab the checkers first. Bicek came in a dejected second while Bendigo finished all alone in third. Mota two saw Bendigo grab another holeshot, and again Bicek took control early. As Bicek rode out front, Hyde found Bendigo much tougher lO pass Ihis moto. Three laps into the race, Hyde tried to pass on the hill towards the finish. Bendigo nailed the throttle, but swapped over into Hyde's line through some whoops. Hyde, already committed to the pass, went inside of Bendigo and moved a wheel hy, but the two tangled over a jump. Bendigo's bike was knocked out from beneath him, and came crashing to the earth. Hyde escaped undaunted and set after Bicek. Within three laps, Hyde reeled-in the leader and outpowered him to grab first. Hyde went acros the line with both the malO and overall win, a few bikelengths ahead of Bicek. AI Hermanson picked up third in the mota and third overall ahead of Walter Mueller and Eddie Porter. One-twa-fives were the next Pro race out of the gate, and Berry grabbed the holeshot ahead of Norfolk, Dave Molder, SlOrk, Friend and Ladd Poitra, and immediately began to take command. Friend went down and fell to the back of the pack, and Poitra faded later in the malO, but out front Berry rode consistently faster than the rest of the field. Norfolk began to drop back, but managed to keep himself in the runner-up slot ahead of Molder. Friend worked his way back into fourth by the last lap ahead of Stork, but time ran out as the check- THIS COULD BE THE LAST ONE! THE END OF AN ERA! THE Ive~'~ U.S.G.P.
