While it was easy going in both tbe Expert classes. Intermediate rider Anthony Gorin gave the Kearney Mesa Yamaha rider Craig all he wanted in the lOSs. Craig had to stage a come-frombehind tie-breaker second moto win over Gorin for the gold. In his regular Intermediate classes, Gorin (Honda-Suzuki of Poway) blitzed the rest of the field with a four-for-four day. Gorin should be an Expert soon, then he and Craig can have fun three times each race day. In other Mini action, 1983 CMMC Rookie-of-the- Year Darren Sanford picked up a I-I win in the Modified Novices to gain a transfer up to the Intermediates for next time. The I25cc Motorcycle classes were well filled, as always, with the Novices providing the top action. While Lance Barnell (Town & Country Kawasaki) won two classes over Steve Kendall, all four motos (Stock and Modified) featured non-stop side by side racing. Just when one rider would seem to establish a narrow bikelength lead, the other would come right back to do likewise. In the Open 125cc class, Team Green rider Bader Manneh was up to his old tricks - blasting the field for two wins in an easy manner. Kawasaki-mounted John Conney ran second to Manneh, then, like Gorin did in the Minis, Conney returned to the Intermediates and blew everybody away for four moto wins. The Junior Cycle classes saw the wins come in bunches, as Justin Rich (Kaw) scored a Stock 9-11 win over Sean Thornton, then take an easy overall in the Modifieds. Thornton went out on the first lap of the second moto after a win in the firstgo-'round. Justin Urata torpedoed the huge field of 0-8 riders, scoring four out of four, with only Eric Hawes giving him a good run in the Stocks. Robertson hot at V.o. T.E. trial By Tim Walker TEXAS CYN., CA, APR. 15 Looking for a good deal? Read the Cycle News Want Ads. John Robertson (Bay Area Cycle Center) continues to be hot property in the ATA Expert class events. Robertson didn't have an easy time as he encountered tough competition from Malt Pritchard. Going into the third loop, Pritchard had a three point edge over Robertson, but rode a less than spectacular loop, and he dropped six points back by the finish. Extremely hot weather bothered quite a few riders, but it didn't affect Robertson as he mentally defeated the other riders, posting a six point, third loop score. Dan Dixon (Section One) had more than his fair share of fives to place third, six marks back from Pritchard. Kevin Norton scored his first top five placing, topping Oli Thordarson by three points for fourth. Scott Annand took top honors in the Amateurs. Where other riders had trouble finding traction in the dry soil, Annand four-stroked his way through on his TL222R Honda. Coming on strong in the last two loops after having five, fives in the first one, was second place finisher Tim Walker. Fillingoutthe top three was Fantic rider SCOll Riggs. First-time Novice winner Pat Fox put in some fine rides to beat second place David Davidson by six points. Davidson carded two points less than Mike Ruth for second. Beginner Trebor Heminway, who was riding hi second trial, came away with the big win. Next time he'll be out for first in the ovi es. Taka Taniguchi was second, four points ahead of Ray Butler. There was a tight battle for first in the enior Amateurs. Four points separated the top three placings. Gary Conrad secured first with a score of 80. Tom Hascher came up two shon for second. Hascher was the only Amateur to clean section seven, a tight climb through a rock slab gully. Despite having one more clean than the winner, An Webster placed third with 84, and five cleans. • Results EX: 1, John Robertson (Yam); 2. Matt Pritchard (SWMI; 3. Dan Dixon (Fan). AM: 1.
