Spencer FREMONT, CA, MAY 2 Baylands Raceway Park opened its regular weekly Continental Motosports Club motocross scene a week and a number of 40 hours late, now on Wednesday nights. Tony Flores returned lO the racing scene and his Palo Alto Yamaha swept of the l25cc Pro class. Jerry Brandt extended his hold on the overall CMC Open class poim .lead while John Gardner topped the 250cc Pros. A near record number of emries .and a late start kept the action going until way past midnight but showed well in form. ·Flored held the gas on just a little longer in both l25cc Pro starts and rode off with the win on his Yamaha Support ride with Manny Ornellas and Kimo Casey doing the chasing. Rich Mythen sported an RM Suzuki for the 250cc Pro event and led all laps of the first round with Gardner holding off Bob Day for second and Donny Anderson having his hands full of Tim Tremaine's Yamaha. In the second round it was Gardner. Day and Anderson all over each other with Gardner leading the all impor.tam one and My then mired in nimh after a crash. Mike Lane lived up LO his nickname, "Holeshot," when he exited the Old Timer/Vet Masters second moLO and then tried LO give the lead back for the rest of the race. Unsuccessful at that, he won both Vet molOS while Gary Estes traded the OT molOS with Ned Marandino, who double points IRC Tire Day at Saddleback Park, until Lady Luck spurned him on his final race. SCOll Manning's YZ holeshot the first500cc Pro molO, but Larson and Husky-mounted Micky Dymond soon got past. The from pair diced all the way home, but at the checkers Larson had a slim lead. . The second molO saw Larson pass Rick Maki's YZ for the lead on the first lap. Dymond, who started in fifth, spent half the race moving up to second, then set his sights on Larson. "What I needed was a couple more laps," commented Dymond after the race, having cut Larson's lead down to a second and a half at the £lag. In the first 250cc Pro moLO, Larson's early lead was erased by "Radical" Ron Turner's hOl Cagiva on the first lap. By the middle of the race Larson regained control of the race as a fierce tHree-way hallie for third ensued behind the leaders. Manning emerged from the fracas first, followed by the Hondas of Richard Sands and Ed Arnet. Before the second 250cc Pro that Turner joked LO Larson about the chunk of the $3000 purse he would earn if he won his last race. "Maybe'I shouldn't have told him." he said afterwards. "He'll probably crash now." Ten minutes later, Larson obeyed. In the second turn on lhe firsl lap, a rider cut him off and he wem down, ending his seige on the others for the day. Manning led the pack from the stan, and never relinquished the lead, although Kawasaki rider Greg Zit- terkopf kept a close second throughout the race. Turner moved up from fifth to finish third, for a second overall behind Manning. Yamaha rider Bryon Amonacci continued to dominate the l25cc Intermediates, moving permanently to the lead by the end of the first lap in both molOS. Steve Ski bel's RM carried him to 3-2 finishes for second overall, while Cagiva rider Brandon Schneider's second place in motoone boosted him LO third overall, just ahead of Mercedez Gonzalez, whose YZ carried her to third in the second molO. Klein, Coupe top Sacto night MX By "Nuclear" Neukam SACRAME TO, CA, MA Y 4 RC Suzuki-sponsored Kenny Klein put together two consistent motos for the overall in the 125cc Pro class at the Friday night stadium motocross, while HiPoint/Honda of Sacramento's Dave Coupe ran away in the 250cc Pro class. Hi-Point/Yamaha-mounted Cory "What's The SLOry" Cantaloupi flew into the lead of the first l25cc Pro moLO and survived heavy pressure from Klein for the win, while Coupe finished third. Moto two was a whole different sLOry, however, as Tim ASLon and Rodney Harriger ballII'd it out aboard their Hi-Point/Kawasakis for the entire moLO. It looked like Harriger had the win sewed up umil he fell before the doubles, and team male Aston roosted over Harriger for lhe win. Ironically, Harriger fell in the same spot Aston did in round one when Harriger rolled over Aston's scooter. Cantaloupi finished fourth. Coupe won the first 250cc Pro moLO by holding off hard-charging Klein and Suzuki-mounted Jimmy Robertson. Coupe won the second motoaswell, this umewith Robertson pushing him the entire moto. Joe Wright piloted his Hi-Point/Honda of Sacramento mount to third. Results 125 PRO: 1. Ken Klein (Suz); 2. Cory Cantaloupi (YamI. 250 PRO: 1. Dave Coupe (Han); 2. Jimmy Robart· son (Suz). OT NOV: 1.
