ka-Canada-Northern California-Northern Nevada-Oregon-Washington-Idaho-Ut mined Justin Martz pressured Bouck all the way LO the flag, but couldn't get by, as Bouck held on for the win. Moto two saw Martz lead start to finish, followed by a tight" pack of challengers. BOlick fell in the la t corner, losing all chances of a top three overall finish. Some clo e racing was provided by the 24 Mini class riders at today's race. Joe Gabelhau en easily won the 50cc Mini clas , while brother Jack had his hands full with the Super Mini. Darrell Byron won the overall in the Mini B division after a daylong ballie with other riders. The Powder Puff lass was a new addition to the race format for the HMCA, and Helen Hawley and Shanda Hart traded moLO wins in this premier event. The Pro classes provided the most excitement of the day, with razoredged racing. However, the most mishaps also occured in these divisions, with the worst being a broken wrist suffered by Bobby Bouck in the 125cc Pro class. Mark JohsLOn was able LO walk away (rom a head-Oil crash with a stationary tree, and Emery Woolsey kept the spectators scrambling. Canada's Suzuki-mounted Steve Visser gave the 125 and 250cc Pros a lesson, by winning all four moLOS on the day. Mark JohsLOn, Emery Woolsey and Jay Mintyala traded places numerous times in the 500cc wars, with Woolsey taking overall win for the event. To make the action a lillie more interesting, a $1000 purse was up for grabs, LO be divided between the Pro racers. Results . 50 MINI: 1. Joe Gabelhausen (Vam); 2. SCott Gibson (Kaw); 3. Coupe flys at Marysville MX By Greg "Nuclear" Neukam MARYSVILLE, CA, MAR. II Hi-Point/Honda of Sacramento-supported Dave Coupe was the top Expert winner at Marysville's "E" Street track by securing the overall in the Open and 250cc classes. Larry "Dashin' " Dashiel scored the holeshot in the first 250cc Expert moLO and held off Coupe for a lillIe over twO laps. Butonce Coupe got his FMF Honda around the fellow Honda rider, there was no LOuching him. HiPoint/Yamaha-supported Ty on Vohland took second ahead of HiPoint/Honda-mounted Eric McKenna and Dashiel. MoLO two shaped inLO a Hi-Point/ Honda battle as McKenna shot inLO the lead with Coupe in hot pursuit. Coupe passed on lap two and led for three more laps. Then McKenna swooped back by and 'stayed in front for the win. Coupe, however, had the overall win with his 1-2 score, while McKenna received second overall with a 3-1 tally. The first Open Expert mOlO was all Coupe's. Dave led from start to fini h while Honda-mounted Joe Wright held on in second all moLO, only to get pas ed on the last lap by McKenna. McKenna started the moLO in third, dropped to fifth by the midway point, then climbed steadily LO second by the checkered. Dexter Hayhurst also gOl by Wright to claim third with Wrighl holding off John "Incredible" Volk's Sierra Products Honda for fourth. Jim Ellis was sixth. Coupe opened the show in moLO two with a flair, as he snatched the holeshot from Sierra Products/Yamaha-mollnted Ellis and McKenna. Wright and Tavin Weinrick filled the LOp five spots, and things began LO take shape. Elli began his hunt for the ideal line past Coupe as lap three began. Near the end of the lap, Ellis appeared to have a wheel by as the duo disappeared behind the tr~es. When Coupe reappeared, McKenna was not putting pressure on his HiPoint partner. Ellis appeared again a few moments later, not in third, sporting a dirty jersey. At this point, things took a turn for the worse for the leader, and Ellis found the ultimate line, much to his surprise, needed to assume the lead. There was a miscommunication between the scorekeepers and the flagman, and the white flag was inadvertently displayed for the two leaders one lap early. Coupe and McKenna diced it out the next lap with Coupe, thinking the moLO was ending on the last jump, stylingtoa "win". McKenna saw Coupe pull off the track, but didn't see the checkered flag, so he pulled over and told Coupe to get going. Meanwhile, Ellis slid by into the lead and McKenna let Coupe in front of him, so the two could sportsmanly work out their battle. Ellis took the real checkered first, while McKenna and Coupe traded positions the remainder of the moLO, with Coupe securing second ahead of McKenna. Fortunately, the overalls were not effected by Ellis being third or first, so Coupe took the overall win with McKenna second overall and Ellis third. • Results MINI BEG: ,. Gr.nt Mich.elson (V.m); 2.
