Shockey, recently back from some CMC racing in California, and Hickman were never much more than three bikelength apart in either molO. Loren could grab the lead here and there - his lighter 250 being a bit more agile in the corners. But Pud had the power, and he's a guy who knows how to use it! Results MICRO: 1. Desert Dillon dusts Idaho Indoor ST By Marty Gregory CALDWELL, 10, FEB. 25 Proving his January win was no fluke, desert racer Ron Dillon powered his Dillon Cycle sponsored KTM to another 250cc Expert Main viclOry on the Caldwell indoor short track. Dillon leaped into the lead with a super holeshot and was never challenged on his way to the bucks. The exception lo that rule was Kelly Perkins. Perkins, riding a Honda-engined track bike, moved up to pressure Dillon during the early going, but fell back lo finish a solid second behind the screaming KTM pilot. To make sure everyone knew he is primarily a desert racer, Dillon rode the short track with his fanny pack (complete with tools) firmly in place. Ron had missed the previous indoor event due lo a scheduling conflict, as he was away in southern Utah riding the ill-fated Rhino Rally (course markings led Dillon and some 40 others astray - Ron and his Austrian wonder were leading). Now, the same KTM 250 waterpumper hada Class C tireon the back and was cook in , on the indoor 1/6 mile! Ron has nothing but praise for the bike and intends to ride the I.S.D.E. Qualifiers on it, starting with Oklahoma. In a more conventional fashion, Rod Reynolds torqued a Honda 500 around fast enough to beat Ricky Henson (Yam), Kelly Perkins (Mai), et al in the Open Expert Main. Reynolds also ran third in the 250cc bash and his younger brother, Richie, took his Micro class nemesis James Cyr (Kaw) to task, winning the lillie guys'Main. MINI EX: 1. Dexer Humbard (Kaw); 2. Chad Case second round. But, Randy Canale rode ills RM to the overall wi th a 1-2. Tim Carrillo and lac Fust played the consistency game in the 125cc Intermediate with Carrillo winning with a 3-2 over Fust's reverse 2-3. Jeff Pestana and Kevin Walker each won a round, but fell victim to a crasillng syndrome. Craig Christian and h is Cycle Gear YZ won both rounds of the j 25cc Pros, as usual, but it wasn't easy, by any means. In the second round, Boles led most of the distance but with lots of pressure, he succumbed LO the onslaught, with two deuces and Steve Panovicha had a similar set of threes. J.P. Morgen figures it will be at least April before he gets his first International ride in Europe, but keeps in shape by winning the Vet class. Mike Lane got his usual holeshot and held on for second with 1-3 scores over Mike Menesini's 3-4. Mike Pascarella was the only Mini Expert and was long gone for his ride, while Jason Assad topped the Intermediate portion over Jimmy Clay, who is now riding for Kenny Roberts' Yamaha Country. Danny Pakadino and Todd Enke rode very close together for the 1-2 in Junior Portion. Dick Mann rode both Open Intermediates OT Masters where he cleaned up on his DMS Husky with Gene Hrobsky second with a 2-3 over Glen Pruitt, Pete Wosick topped Sports' man honors, while son Bob finished 2-2 in the 250cc Juniors and brother Larry spectated, getting ready for a tour in South Africa. Spencer BRENTWOOD, CA, FEB. 26 Sand Hill Ranch's annual Champion of Champions series is underway with Budweiser, Contra Costa Honda and Diablo Valley Cycles sponsoring the three-race series. The series leads right into the West Coast version of the Nationals, and many of the Pros were on hand warming up. Craig Christian still claims the 125cc Pro class although Danny Boles is vastly improving his talents. Doug McRae sports a trusty Husky and looks better than ever while Joey Schlag is still king of the Open class on his Contra Costa Honda. Todd Mitchell was theeariy bird in the I25cc Junior round but had trouble, finishing fifth in moLO one, but came back to hold on and win the Results PEE WEE: 1. Casey Anderson (Yaml; 2.
