Green's Brian Billings-tuned machine got an easy holeshot from the pole, but barely made one circuit before there was a horrendous crash involving Aseltine, Roose and Stering. On the restart Campbell and Patterson rushed into the lead with Green in third trying to make up ground. On what happened next, you get as many versions as people you a k. Pallerson was leading the race in front of Campbell and Yamamoto, but on lap two Green pa ed Yamamoto on the outside. Green's tires continued to stick and he rai ed his speed to 60 mph on the miniscule straights. Fay got a terrible start, but managed to move 10th to eighth on his Harley-Davidson/Super-Trappsponsored bike. Green passed Campbell for second on lap three and began his pursuit of Patterson, who was having a great ride. But Green zapped him fair and square. "on the inside, oming off the painted section going into the north turn" on lap seven. For the next few laps they crossed the start/finish line almost neck and • neck, while Campbell. Yamamotq. .. '••1Iarsha..A'!idt.iue and Roose setJieJiY" into the third through seventh positions, respectively. Finally, on the 14th lap, Pallerson had some very bad luck. Right after the white flag came out his Yamaha seized. He got it running again, but not before Campbell. Yamamoto and Harsha had flashed past for econd through fourth. Philosophical after it wa over, Patterson just sipped a beer and aid, "I had a good time tonighl." A very happy Green wanted to "thank American Honda and BelRay," as he took $450 of the $1500 purse to the bank. MAR. 4 Warren "Pud" Hickman and Loren Shockey had a tremendous race on Boise's winter MX course and they both won! Pud took the Open Expert class aboard his YZ490 aRd Loren won 250cc Expen on a Honda CR. But the real story was the race between them for the hypothetical "overall" in the combined 250cc 10pen motos. The winter course at the Owyhee Motorcycle Club's Peaceful Cove clubgrounds is south, sandy and strenuous. The snow was gone and the bumps were huge. The long course. with its deep and and massive uphill, favored the big bikes. A fine turnout of riders from throughout southwestern Idaho and eastern Oregon were on hand, and they all got a workout.
