uthern Nevada.Southern Call (all and I'd be able to ride an easy race. "I just came inLO· the turn too hard," was about all Stewart could say of his excursion of( the track that cost him the read. BTS Oil's Pat Weber (Hon), in his second race since breaking his collarbone in the opening race of the Golden State Series, probably had some of the worst luck of the day. Weber pulled out a huge lead in the first half of the Open Pro race and it looked like nobody would catch him, even though second place Vaughan Style (Hon) was slowly making up time. But two laps from the finish Weber crashed when his Honda's rear brakes sLOpped working, allowing Style to take the lead and eventual win. Weber was able LO maintain second over Australian Stephen Gall (Yam/Team ABOE), who made a spectacular comeback from a dead last start to third. Don Griewe (O'NieIlDuralube/ KTM) won the 250 class by a huge margin over Craig Dark (Yam/Team ABOE) and Cycle Works Suzuki rider . Dave Fernandez. OJ ., 125cc Beginners invade at Corona nightMX WEST By Nate Rauba CORONA, CA, FEB. 24 A large number of 125cc Beginners turned out for Corona Raceway's weekly Friday night MX, requiring two divisions, each of which filled the starting gate to near capacity. BC Cycle's Paul Cline beat the other 18 riders of the second division to the first turn of moto one, with Suzuki riders Tom Cardone and Mi ke Chantry in pursuit. Cardone wasted no time LO move into the lead, and after a lap Max Sprall (Hon) moved by Chantry into third. Sprall passed .Cline at the beginning of lap two, then caught Cardone on the first uphill and squeezed through the inside to take the lead. Cardone repassed a few turns later, then Spratt crashed before the end of the lap and was out for the night. With two laps remaining Cardone held a slim lead over Chantry, but after landing from a jump, Cardone hit the throllie a lillie too hard and looped out right in front of Chantry. Unable to avoid the fallen bike, Chantry slammed into it and went over the bars. Cline was (ar enough behind to avoid the fallen riders and machines and inherited the lead. Cardone was able to restart swiftly, and (inished the moto in fifth. Chantry was shaken up, but got up to complete a lap before pulling off on the last lap. Todd Kobetsky (Kaw) worked his way up and snatched first from Cline before the white flag came out, then pulled away on the final lap to win. Cline managed to hold off a last-lap charge by Kenny Dohanos (Chapparel Cycle/Suz) LO capture second. Kobetsky started at the front of the pack in moLO two, racing side by side wi th Cardone through the first corner. Cardone put his Suzuki out front exiting the turn, but Kobetsky went LO the inside and took the lead a few turns later. Kobetsky was clearly in command this moLO as he stretched his lead with each lap all the way to the finish. Cardone held a safe second the entire race to earn the same place overall, while Yamaha rider Steve • • • • • • • • • •• EAST 213/427-7433 213/636-8844 404/934-7850 • • Okay, what can I lose1 Start my store selling CYCLE NEWS with the next issue.
