Paul Cline (007) leads Max Spratt at Corona friday night motocross.
(Below) Gary Denton smoked the competition at Corona's Leap Year GP.
carried them down to the end.
Throughout their first round, Yamaha-mounted Shaw fought tooth
and nail with Honda-racer Thetford.
Keith Vensel. aboard a Kawasaki for
Kal-Gard, led the pack up the start
hill only to see Shaw and Thetford
pass him on by for fir t and second.
With Vensel holding back the field,
Shaw and Thetford were handlebar
to handlebar. Thetford, skimminr
the ledge of a berm, slipped into the
lead. Moment later, Shaw dove into
one of the dust bowls; redaiming his
position.
This madness repeated itself over
and over with Shaw ending the moto
in control, Thetford riding hotgun
and Vensel firm in third.
In their second round of action,
Vensel once more led the way only to
be edged out by Shaw. On a roll and
shaking the winning dice, Thetford
pulled a pass to the outside, moving
into second. Shaw, pulling one block
pass after another. At the top of the
downhill, Thetford rode the crest,
Laking command. On the last lap
Thetford's Lead was a mere threetenths of a second but he held on
down to the wire and into the winner's
circle. Shaw scooped up second-place
gold and Vensel's 3-3 performance
cinched third overall honors.
