Daniel Bonvicin won the final event (I-I) over Steve Hays (2-2), but Armstrong finished third (3-3) LO take the secondplace series honors over HasenpOug, who turned in a 5-4 point tally for fourth overall and third in the series. While this reporter doesn't have the complete list of series champions vet, the 25Gec.Juniors were out in full force today, and [lut on a great race for the number-one brass. Mike Harriman won the first moLO over secondplace John Porgie, but Porgie just wasn't starting well. He made up for his poor start in the second race, though, and worked up from the middle of the pack to first place on . the seventh of the eight laps. Porgie took the overall over Harriman and John Labat (3-3). Another big race of the day was the 125cc Junior ballie which saw Rob Richards come out on LOp after trading maLO wins with second place Sean Lollar, who has been doing very well during the series. Richard Davis rode consistently LO two third-place finishes for the third place trophy. Results OPEN INT: 1. David Deuser (Hon); 2. Fred Beilman (Yam); 3. Malthew Vulk (Honl. OPEN JR: 1. Miller tops Trans-Cal Minis By Tom Corley HOLLISTER, CA, OCT. 8 Considered by the participants as being one of the most beautiful circuits in California, Hollister Hills hosted the third round of the CMC/diet Coke TransCal Series. New points leaders emerged £rom this event while other riders increased their leads. Craig Miller emerged as the new 80cc Junior leader with 51 points to LOp his rival Sean Blanchard. Doug Hagio won the I25cc Junior Division One contest yet still trails Dave SchwarZOll and his leading 42 points. Ron Economu is the man who is dominating the 250cc Intermediate ranks with 42 points to lead Willy MusjUave by a good margil1. Even coming 0[£ a win at CalExpo, Craig Miller was still trailing in overall points behind Sean Blanchard and Paul Blomquest. Today the situation changed as Miller took over the points lead by taking both maLO wins. This gave him 51 points which edged out Blanchard's 48 and Blomquest's 40. In with the first mota it was Kawasaki-mounted Blanchard with the holeshot. Brock Suter is running fifth in the serie.s wi th 23 points and it was Suter taking a second-place start. Miller flew.il! thirg place dn.. n the? starting stretch but when he reached the second turn he snatched second place from Suter. Determined to take the win, Miller gained ground on Blanchard. Before the first lap was completed Miller hooked the left line on a right-handed turn and swooped past Blanchard to take the top spot. Having a IO-second lead when the finish flag came out, Miller was uncontested once he cleared past every' one on the first lap. Coming from behind just like Miller, Todd Pipes started in fourth but passed both Suter and Blanchard on the second lap to be the runner-up. Blanchard settled for third ahead of Jeff Landgraf and Suter. The holeshot in the second mota . was something that Miller could not take, and this (arced him LO play catch up. Blanchard and Pipes gunned it out ahead of the pack wtth Miller in third once more. While still on the first lap, Miller was able to zap both of the leaders and swipe the lead. On the uphill where Miller passed Blanchard for the first maLO win, Miller flew past Pipes to land second place. Blanchard fell prey to Miller on.another uphill haul that cleared through the shady trees. With the checkered flag it was Miller, Blanchard, Land-. graf, McCormick and Suter. Two hard-earned first-place finishes gave Miller the clean vicLOry and51 points to lead the series. Blanchard claimed second overall wtth his 3-2 tally. Landgraf's 4-3 gave him tl:te third-place trophy. The 6-4 tally placed McCormick in fourth. Suter rbunded out the top five with two fifths. Results 60 THRU B: ,. John Stlawr (Kaw). 60 9-11: 1. Chnstian, Barry win under lights at SHRMX By Jim Bowman BRENTWOOD, CA, OCT. 7 Craig Christian and Kelly Barry won the 250cc and Open Pro classes, respectively, at the Friday night Continental Motorsports Club motocross at Sand Hill Ranch. Holeshot artist Christian (Richmond Yamaha/Cycle Gear) demonstrated his talent in the first" maLO, but Mark Hearn worked his way past for the win. Hearn took an early lead in the second moto, but fell and finished third for second overall behind Christian. Barry won both Open Pro moLOS over Berkeley Yamaha's Wayne Archer and Randy Tan. The first race of the night was the 125cc Junior clash which saw Erik Fjellbo work his way around Jeff Dawson for the checkered flag. Matt Ranay finished third that maLO, but came back strong in the second round to top Tony Ray Carey and Fjell bo. Ranay's second-maLO win gave him the overall over Fjellbo and thirdplace Carey. Dawson finished fourth in maLO two and took fourth overall. The Vets, Old Timers and Powder Puffs took to the track in the second race and Vet Master Dave Morgen took the early lead LO the finish. Paul Burwick was a distant second overall for first in the Vet class and Frank Seronello was fil1it Old Timer. Powder purr rider Carol Bowman passed Debbie Taylor for the lead in class and the two continued to dice until both stalled their Honda XR200s on the LOp of a double jump. Bowman restarted and finished, but Taylor DNF. Morgen took the lead again in the second moto, but crashed in the big berm turn and couldn't catch Burwick before the finish flag. Vet class rider Burwick took the overall ahead of Vet Master Morgen and Old Timer Master Rick Parkinson. Behind the pack, Taylor passed Bowman and took the checkers, but Bowman took the Powder Puff overall because of Taylor's first-maLO DNF. With the Vets, Old Timers and Powder Puffs racing, the 8Gec class riders rounded out the program as the youngest family menlbers and sportsmen. Things still aren't very sporting for Terry Bastard, though; he was the lone 8Gec Expert and easily beat 80cc Intermediate class winner Jason Assad, who is also no stranger to the winner's circle. Anthony Viscia scored the 8Gec Junior honors with two class wins ahead of Robbie Paulson, and Ryan Gardner caught and passed Jeremy Kreamer in the second moto of the 60cc class for the number-one trophy.
