lrlrIusky rider Dan Ashcraft was
.. n top form as he took the over"lin win, leading start to finish
;ip the Dusters M.e. 24th annual
.Sissy Run.
When the banner dropped Ash. craft put his big Husky right to work.
lOiPut past the bomb he was leading
llyith fellow Husky rider Dan Smith
*cond. Tom Elias was ha:ving an
unbelievable ride on his C bike and
,was third. Ken Upp (KTM) came by
,)at fourth and was closing in on Elias.
1 Ed Pierce ran fifth, leading the 250cc
j plass.
j';' After approximately 40 miles, some
iJQf which hadn't been ridden on for
omany years, it was Ashcraft coniing
,down pit row in the lead. Smith
_ pulled into pit as Ashcraft (after a
~erY quick pit) was pulling out. After
ren Beck II, had moved up to fifth.
Pierce still had his Yamaha out in
'" front in the 250cc class. Tim Sinclair
~as pushing Pierce hard as these two
"were running 6-7.
10 Lori Farmer was leading in the
,Women'sclasswith Denise Engstrom
llrunning second. Hard to beli~e, but
lit was C bike rider Gary Covington
leading the' Novice race. Joe LockJ).lart was second and first in the 250cc
rrNlass.
.
II. Once more over this skill-testing
course it was "Book 'em, Dan-O"
!\shcraft bringing his finely tuned
Husky in for the win. Displaying the
usual big smilethat always goes with
the overall win, Ashcraft said, "The
d(:ourse was great; I really enjoyed it."
Ashcraft thanked Husky Motor Corp.,
Hi-Point, Scott USA and Bel-Ray.
•' Pulling in to take the second was
Husky teammate Smith, who said he
bailed on the second loop when he
moved over to pass a lapped Novice
andgotona badly rutted trail. Montclair Yamaha rider Ed Pierce pulled
in for a third overall and first 250cc as
the PeOple cheered.'Many peOple knew
I
(E
Pierce wanted this win today for his
friend Howard McCasland, who is
still in a coma and in serious condition. This one was for you Howard!
Taking the fourth overall and first
C bike was Elias, who had an outstanding ride today. He said he knew
Beck was right behind him and he
was sure glad to see that checkered
because he really had to work hard to
stay in front of him.
Beck took his fifth overall and
second in the C bike class after a good
ride. Ted Hunnicutt stopped just out
from the finish to give aid to downed
rider Tim Sinclair who was incoherent for awhile. Thankfully Sinclair's
condition wasn't too serious. Stearns
came in for the sixth after stopping to
make sure Sinclair had help. Hunnicutt made sure Rescue 3 was with
Sinclair and was able to come on in
for a seventh. Brett Lawrence really
liked the course and it showed. as he
brought his C bike in for eighth overall after a fine ride. Mike Alexander,
coming back from an injury, was
showing his usual good style as he
took ninth and second 25Occ. Rounding out the top 10 was Gary Charters
as he took another first in the 250cc
Vet class. Already having the number
one sewed up in the 250cc Senio.r division, Charters needs only four more
wins in the 250cc Vet class and he will
have that plate. When you talk about
legends, sooner or later the name
Charters will come up. Dan Seagondollar held off Greg Johnston for the
win in the 250cc Amateur class.
Leading from start to finish, Jim
Bringhurst took first in the Open
Senior class. Guy Kibbe was able to
stay in the lead and take the win in
the Open Amateur class. In the Open
Vet class Mark Force was a winner
with Richard Jackson second. Dick
Postma took a first in the hard riding
250cc Senior group. Larry Gordon
chalked up another win in the C bike
Senior class.
Gary Covington had a truly super
ride on his 175- Yamaha to take the
overall Novice win. He said he only
fell six times but thought the course
was fun. Taking second Novice and
first 250cc was Kevin Olen riding out
of Kern Sport Cycle. Two of the bes~
rides of the day were had by Lon
Anderson Jr. and Chris Sain, both
Novices. These two took the checkered together! As a result they wound
up tied for the Women's Novice vic. tory.
