A premiere event for Califor nia's state capital, this is the only chance to see Supercross in northern California this year; where the bristling battle between the stars continues its rage. In round two of the Trans Cal Series in Sacramento the pros will vie for an early ,heat toward the $10,000 point fund that the Supercross Crown wiIJ bring. Sacramento Star Une-Up Rumbling through the night air at theCMCsanctioned MILLER HIGH LIFE SUPERCROSS will be some of the biggest names in the sport of Supercross today. Racing fans will thrill to exciting action by legendary winners like Yamaha's three-time Los Angeles Superbowl champion, newly-crowned 'S!J 500cc Grand National Champion, and member of the American Team in the Motocross and Trophee des Nations events, Broc Glover; plus his Yamaha teammates Ron Lechien and Warren Reid. Entries from Team Honda boast such greats as 19S2 500cc National Champion Darrell Shultz, the new 198!J 125cc National Champion Johnny O'Mara, and Brian Myerscoul!:h. The Team Suzuki line-up includes Scott. Burnworth and George Holland; plus Team Tamm, KTM, Husqvarna, and many more factory Pros and privat· eers like two-time Superbowl winner, Marty "Typhoon" Tripes. 48 Local Supercross enthusiasts will witness their own Northern California superstars - Honda's famed Danny "Magoo" Chandler from Forest hill, who finished third in the 500cc National Championship this year; and Yamaha's Donnie Cantaloupi, who hails from Stoc.kton and who placed fifth overall in the 'S!J 250cc National Championships. Both OIandler and Cantaloupi placed in the top 20 in the 'S!J Super Series, and will carry the hometown advantage with them on October I. There is a possibility that Honda's new 'S!J triple·crown winner, David Bailey, may compere in Sacramento'. He will make a final decision upon returning from racing as part of the victorious U.S. team at the Motocross and Trophee des Nations events in Europe. Supercross with 5th Geer Straightawey A full field of 80 riders from around the nation will maneuver their powerful 250cc motocross machines over the first man-made Supercross track ever built on the Cal Expo dirt track and infield. Get set to watch the Pros compete on a spectacular course that promises to be the toughest and most challeng· ing race track ever designed by Gary Bailey and built by Stadium Motor sports Corp. It is the largest Supercross course built in 10 years; covering the dirt track and the infield in front of the grandstands. Not only is the Cal Expo track longer than any other .Supercross track ever - a three-quarter mile stretch of whoop-de-doos, hurdles, peaks, and jumps; but it boasts a world record Supercross straightaway! The long 560-foot straight will have riders gassing it to fifth-gear speeds of 70 mph before a sweeping left· hand turn! The man-made course also has a montrous 15-foot Miller Mountain Jump - the biggest jump ever built. Fans and riders alike will witness these three firsts at the Super· cross in Sacramentol Simplified Rece Formet A new race format at the Sacramento MIllER HIGH UFE SUPERCROSS makes it easy for fans to mark their scorecards; but is tougher on the riders. With a full entry of SO riders, lineups of 20 riders each will compete in a total of four qualifiers, two semis, and one consolation leading to the main. From these groups of 20 in each moto, only the top four riders in each qualifying heat, the top two in each semi-final' heat, and the winner of the consolation heat will qualify for the Main Event. A the end of the evening, only 21 of the best Supercrossers will engage in a raging 20· lap sudden-death battle for the checkered flag.
