Northern Califomie-NOrthern Nev; SkIver scampers at at Seattle RR By Bruce Scholten. KE T, WA, JULY 31 Fresh from his sixth-place topprivateer finish in the July 24 Portland Superbike National, Randy Skiver returned to a .. r-.. sunny Seattle International Raceway today to' sweep the Superbike and Formula One classes on his Suzuki. "It uses a quart of oil every race, and I have to keep it red·lined to make any power, but it did the trick," said Skiver, who quickly dispatched the oppostion in the Formula One final, opening a lOO·foot lead over second'place john Doyle on the first lap. After that, he just widened his lead toward the win, while Honda. mounted Claude Hislop clawed his way past brother Mark's Suzuki. Bqb Work appeared at SIR wilh his 920 V·twin Yamaha. Ray Baker was the pilot today, aDd went prelly fa~ on the 85-horsepower machine. He: pulled second in the Superbike qualifier behind Skiver, and ahead of Sean Phillips and Dale Zlock. Skiver turned I:32s in the final, building up enough cushion to relax a bil. The three-way battle for second was fierce. Dale Zlock got his Susuki past Sean Phillips on lap six, but Phillips grabbed it right back. On lap nine Baker got by Zlock and was breathing up Phillips' exhaust pipe while flying through the chicane. By the end, he'd hooked Phillips and took second overall. H,onda-mounted Larry Buck was the winner of a tremendous 750cc production final that had the crowd on its feel. Rainier Honda's Buck led most of the early laps, but you could have thrown a blanket over him, Chuck Wiley and joel Iliner. Wiley's Bellevue Suzuki led lap six, but Buck was in front the next lime. Somewhat down on power, Ittner rode very hard, probing for a pass. Buck and Wiley swapped the lead again on the last lap, while Illner trailed by just I 0 feet. "I saw Wiley's front wheel at the while flag, so I dove into turn two just as hard as I could," said Buck. Trying to navigate turn two, Wiley drirled too wide, allowing Ittner a better drive into the downhill, and momentarily, a well-earned second place. Totem Lake Kawasaki's joe Davis was just behind in founh. Beeaase ODeea mODtb is DOt Beeause Olee amODthis ,otenoUCh. j1 ~ I :~ ~.t-' ~- 8800gb.
