Cavness took a bad spill in the recent memorial race and suffered a lung injury. Even with this injury. Cavness was out racing and competitively too. There was yet another who was racing in this class even though he had an injured knee, and this was Randy Skinner, alias "Sid Squid". Skinner took his Honda to the early lead in the opening moto. Behind him were Cavness, Conlin and Karl Holmberg. On the second lap Cavness took the lead away from Skinner. Sacrificing the lead because of his hurting knee, Skinner dropped back. Conlin worked past Skinner on the hairpin tum before the doubles and Holmberg did the same. lt was Cavness, Conlin, Holmberg and Skinner, who finished only six laps of the seven-lap race. Skinner didn't feel that he could reasonably ride in the final moLO and pulled out ofthe line-up. Cavness got the jump on the pack in the final round ahead of Holmberg and Conlin.
