nings. The race changed as Johnson killed his motor by the tree section and allowed Jennings to tak.e command. In all fairness, Jennings gave the lead back to Johnson when he stalled his bike. Johnson was confident of the lead, taking a bad break but then receiving a good one. Not giving up, Jennings snuck up to Johnson and slid past him below Webco hill. The win went to Jennings with Johnson in second and Jeff Long In third. The MidCi t1 es/P ro- C i rcu i t-s pon sored Jennings tagged the overall cash award and continues to be one of the fastest local Pro riders despite a serious knee injury during a four-stroke championships race in 1981. Second place money went to Johnson with Long taking home third place winnings. ~ 00 0') Dubach, Jennings, Johnson clinch CRCgold By Tom Corley IRVINE, CA, JULY 24 A.J. Whiting leeds Rick Johnson switched hands when Conlin caught Ca-mess over the finish-line jump. Cavness had another problem besides Conlin, as the chain derailed on his Suzuki. For this moto there were only two finishers, Conlin and Holmberg. A 2-1 tally earned Conlin his best cash prize this season over Holmberg, Cavness and Skinner. lfyoudidn'uideaKawasaki in the Mini Novice class you didn't take a good position. Shackleford became good at catching up LO Broders and defeated him for theoverall win. Shackleford took a terrihie start in the first moto yet worked up until he was right behind the leader Broders. Shackleford was ready to take over the lead when he fell in a sandy pit. All was not lost for Murray as he worked his way back up and caught Chris Bamsey before the doubles and passed him to take second behind Broders. Broders got the jurnp on the pack again in the second moto. Shackleford had a decent start this time and was in second place behind Broders. MurrayzappedBrodersontheserond lap over a section of whoops and became the new leader. He held the lead until the last lap when his right foot peg broke off from the impact of landing off the double jumps. Right before the finish Don Burke caught Murray and took over the lead. The 2-2 tally belonging to Shackleford did the winning trick. Broders was second with a 1-4 over Bamsey and Burke. Results 101EG:1.'"--. . . /y...~ \K8wI: 3. _ McMinn . (Hant2.CIwd.... Doug Dubach had his most successful week of racing during his career as a 125 Pro. He took the top honors at three night races last week; Ascot, Orange County International Raceway and Corona. Today in California Racing Club motocross racinR at Saddleback, Dubach swept the -I 25cc Pro class for his fourth win. In the best two-man dice of the day, Yamaha-sponsored riders Rick Johnson and A.J. Whiting headed the 250 Pro class line-up, with Johnson prevailing. There was yet another fantastic two-man struggle for the 500cc Pro cash between long-time Pro riders Jeff Jennings and SCOIl Johnson, with Jennings coming out the victor. The 250cc Pro class was nothing less than a Yamaha rally, with the yellow machines claiming the LOp four spots. Two riders stood out and captivated everyone's interest every lap they rode. A.J. Whiting is a National rider and is currently ranked in the top 10 on the 125cc National circuit. It was no surprise then that Whiting led the first moLO of 250cc Pro racing. Whiting looked like he was in the clear, with Rick "Too Hip" Johnson not making the best of starts. The situation changed as Johnson worked his way up and became a threat to the leader Whiting. The contest remained the same untif Johnson slid by Whiting with only a half a lap LO go. Through the finish it was Johnson, Whiting. Mike Beier and Jeff Jennings. Whiting was magic at the start of the second moto as he came out on top again. Once more it appeared as if Johnson was not going to pose a threat to Whiting because he was back in the pack. However, Johnson passed the locals left and right until he was on the tailpipe of Whiting's Yamaha. This time Johnson learned how to work past Whiting quicker and made his move to first place with two laps to go instead of at the last moment upsetting Whiting. John· son took the win with Beier holding down third once more. Two firsts for J 0 h nson was good enoughfor h' t 0 1m take away the bucks from the local riders. San ROIfIan em~re at Corona S-r/ M " By Elaine Jones CORONA, CA, JULY 27 Those who came out to Corona Raceway for flat track were ed·th ck ha . greet WI a tra t twas 10 excellent shape and some fun ~ racing was on tap. Eddie San Roman and his Wood· ROlaX literally walked away with the Open Money short track in spite of fine ...... .......rormances from both John Barricklow and Cal Rayborn. Neither n'der seemed to h ave t h e power that San Roman was sitting on. but the two did keep him in sight hoping for the mistake that never came. San Roman made it two for the night when he came back in the Open Expert half mile but it wasn't . quite as easy as Yama h a n 'ders J 0 hn Barricklow and Jason Bell both got the jump on San Roman off the line. I t took San R oman t h ree Iaps before he got by Bell and it wasn't until the sixth lap that he was able to outfox Barricklow for the lead. Barricklow .. came ngh t b ack at h' 1m b ut was unable to find the passing room and had to settle for second. Bell was in for lhf' third. _ Barricklow added the Open Expert short track LO his trophy list as he went wire to wire in thaI one willi Bell second. The Open Amateurs split the honors with Don Meiner and his T&R-sponsored Yamaha taking ttie shon track and Bob Graves getting the nod on the half mile. Meiner went wire to wire on the short track with Graves right behind him all the wa1. On the half mile, Meiner looked to repeat but Graves got by him on ilie second lap and that was it. Richard Sweaney earned his transfer to Amateur turning in two outstanding rides in the 250cc Novice goes. The Amateur/Experts went off on the first row with the Novices on the second and the Amateur/Experts had their hands full with Sweaney. He not only challenged them, he. downright passed them, finishing second LO Expert Ken Corpe on the shon track and beating him on the Half Mile. Rusty Gaita was the second Novice home and he is gelling very close LO earning his transfer LO the Amateur ranks. The Open Novices mixed things up prelly good but when thedusl had sellied it was Keith Peel with all the marbles. In the short track Richard Schroeder got tbe lead orr the line, but two laps into the race Schroeder's bike went sour and Peel took over. Mike Graves locked firmlv into second and Jimmy George was third. On the half mile Schroeder again got out on top, but this time Peel moved a litde quicker and took over the lead on the second lap. Schroeder hung right in there but could do no better than follow him home. Brad Roben picked up the third. Results SHORT TRACK PEE WEE: ,. Duetin SUllki (y.m). MINI: 1. Mlrtt Dom_n /Y.m,. 250 NOV: 1.
