The 32 mile first loo p was expertly designed to provide a decent cha llenge 10 th e ladi es a nd kids wit hout being boring 10 the two loo pers (who were a llowed to be lat e). The av era II o ne loop winner surpri singly turn ed o u t 10 be a 200cc three-wheeler, Steve Isenhower J r. , wh o lost o nl y one second (with no odometer?).Second overa ll was Minor 80cc cla ss winner Clint Li ster (0:03). T hird stood first lady J ul ie Benso n on her I25cc, losin g o nly five seconds. T he 80-mi le second loop too k off directl y to and along th e top of the razorback north of camp, a nd into th e sand hiIls. Some co nfusion came abo ut as a co up le of in con sidera te four-wh eeled vehicles parked on to p of the razorback, ca using some co nfusion a nd, lu ckil y for them, no in. j uries. At the 3.2-m iles ma rk stood the first check. About half of th e better riders burn t th is check as the m ileage was over a 10th off. Again. like the first loop , the second loop followed ma ny of the mo re spectacular and fun trai ls in the Superstition Mounta in/Cariso Wash area. WeIl pl aced checks balanced o ut what ma ny of the riders complai ned were very poor co urse a nd da nger markings. A few got lost, a few more got off. and hopefuIly riobod y go t hurt. Maybe a fast pre-run rider equ ipped with the necessary material co uld rectify thi s serious problem. The end uro h igh light for th e A riders (or th e low point for the C riders) was simply called the " Rock Pile." It was a very na sty half m ile of rocks the size of which ranged from wa term elo n o n up . Many, many rid ers go t off, go t h urt, mangled their bikes and j ust genera Ily had a ro ugh time of it. A typi cal Southern Ca lifornia 0 -37 end uro section, it was a real bitch as th e Bush Eaters' video tape wi Il show at the tro phy presentation. For th e record. ISOT vetera n Ch ip HoweIl lost six wh ole seconds in th e Ro ck Pile. The three wheel ers were a llo wed to g o a ro u n d thi s section. Several m ore exce llent sectio n s sepa ra ted th e ga s stop and the fin ish . Man y riders failed to send o ut eno ugh gas and ended up havin g a ni ce, q ui et aftern oo n waiting fo r th eir friends to co me get them . .Many riders rode the end uro o n four-stroke ma chinery. If those riders join the 0 ·38 end uro four-stroke class a t th e next en d uro, th ey wiIl receive points for th e J ailhouse end uro. T his a lso applies for the Mi nor and threewheel classes.
