JAN. 16 On a day that wa s riddled with horrendous falls that had the paramedics ru nning in circles , 125cc Amat eur Doug Butcher came away wit h both the Modified a nd Stock class wins. Some bad luck fell to Shawn Hilton. one of the hottest up-an d-coming Mini ri de rs in Arizona. A last la p cras h left him with a broken collarbo n e and a couple of weeks to si t out. The fir st moto o f the l 25cc Amateur's Stock class had Mark Lucas ge tti ng off in the first turn while Scott " Mr. Holeshot" Du va ll led Bu tch er. Greg Conradson and Ro n Fields. Duvall and " Bu tch" quickly turned the rac e into a two ma n show as Lucas was churning through a pack of 250cc Amateurs to catch up. Butch went lin e for line. but fin ally overtook Duvall for th e lead and the win. Conradson cruised in for second with Duva ll dropping in behin d . L ucas managed a fifth wi th J eff Bonnet jetting a head in fourth . The second time o ut had Butch gr abb ing a n early lead with Du vall and Lucas battling for second. It took BUlCh on ly a lap to m otor aw ay fro m the m adness wh ile Lucas sli d by Du vall. It was too litt le lOO lat e wit h Butch smoking th ro ugh th e la ppers at a hectic but co nstant pace. Lucas towed Con radson pa st the ch eckered with Bonnet and Duvall rounding out th e to p five. Fun begins when you let the clutch lever out. ..... . ...
