George al so ran wa y with the first in th e second moto. Gabe Gutierrez got the.holeshot in moto two and took seconds in both motos, Dick Burley, of the Expert class , did it again. He went out there, found the winning line in practice and programmed his Honda for the win. He brought in both wins again. Don Young, a Suzuki rider, took a second in moto one and Cal Browning took the holeshot and pulled in second place in th e second moto. Novice Dick Doyl e led 16other fast Novices in both motos to claim that prized overall win. Dick Feuel took second in moto one. Following Fett el wereJohn Leisner and Bob Denman . Chris Cannon and J immy Ro so battled for th e third right down to th e wire, with th e nod going to Cannon on the last lap. The 250cc Money half m ile was a big surprise to everyone except KRW. sponsored Roger Thompson, who got a n unusually good start. That put him in th e lead , and from th ere on out h e never look ed back. Todd Sim mo ns (Hon ) too k th e first 250cc Pro hol eshot, closel y follow ed by Je ff Jen nings (Hon ). Jennings di ced with Simmon s for a co upl e of laps before he put hi s CR250 into the lead for good. Simmons fad ed way back while Jennings took the fir st mot o win. Yamaha rider Brian Manley took second and Andy Kirker took third on a Honda. T odd Simmons once again took the holeshot in moto two, but was pa ssed by Jennings in turn three and start ed fading again. Manley worked pa st J enn ings halfway through the rnoto , but J ennings would not settle for seco nd. Jennings made a pass and held it to th e checkers for the win. Manley took second overall, and third went to Gary Adams on a Honda. Yamaha-mounted Robert Marino . won the Open class over Leland Baron on a Maico. Barrick banzai at CRC Saddleback By Tom Corley ORANGE, CA, JAN. 9 While the Golden State Series starred most every factory Pro, Mini Expert and Veteran to be found, the California Racing Club gave th e amateur riders a ctiance to qual ify for Anaheim Stadium on th e back motocross track at Saddleback Park. There were six events, two for the Mini riders. With the new Kawasaki 60 being out on the market, there are quite a few riders who are making the switch, in cluding Joel Tokarsky. Tokarsky defea ted Bryan Hicks in both motos to Lake the 60cc Stock win. While th e Mini events had little doubt wh o was going to win, the 125cc Novice class wa s a battle for the lead. Mid-Cities Honda rider Jon Barrick went home with th e first pla ce troph y a fter two mot os of exhausting passing. Steve Thetford led the pack in th e openi ng rn o to with Mike Morrison a nd Barr ick follow in g. Barri ck started working o n Morrison and slid by the fell ow H onda rider a fter a cou p le of laps.. Barrick gra bbed th e lead , a n? Thetford ma naged second over Mornson . Ba rri ck had to play catch up in the . fin al round , so for th e first few laps there we re o ther riders in the spotligh t.
