The Lionel Nunes-prepped quarter-mile dirt oval never look ed better and wa s g rea t for a good turnout of both ra cers and spe ctators. Freitas a nd th e Dave Bird Yamaha a re obviously no match for the rest o f the 100cc Experts as man y o f th e yo u ths hav e jumped on the big bikes. S teve Mayfield a nd Tommy Carriger gave chase for th e secon d a nd third spot over J eremy Chisum a nd Shad Johnson. Jerem y Gonza les got away from Josh Chisum in th e Pee Wee class for another big win. Newcomer Steve Rasumussen hit it big for his first time out in the winner's circle winn ing th e 80cc Novi ce/junior com bina tion over Rick Gon zales. Freitas got off to a not he r runaway win in 80cc Expert with Ronnie Hayes doing a gr eat job for second over Mik e Macedo. Carriger and Ch isum. Bob Damron was to ps in the 250cc Novice class followed ever so closel y by Craig J ohnson. fresh off the mini tour. Kurt Chandl er co ntin ued to dominat e th e 250cc Junior class o n h is J im Chisum Kawa saki. Frank Sanchez, Jr. kept him honest with a good ride o n hi s new wa ter-cooled CR250R Honda . Ri ck y C re mona came in for th ird over a very large p ack. The 250cc Expert main co u ld hav e been a National for a ll th e co m pe tition invol ved . but it was a comp lete ru n away for Chris Carr a n d th e NDsparked/Jorgy Ca n -Am . Chris and Bruce Johnson broke early wi th Carr ge ll ing off by himself to a bi g lead by the fourth lap . Johnson was co nte nd ing with th e large pa ck th at sta rte d off with Mark Key and Joe Kn ig h t as ch ief protagonists , but they wer e quickl y replaced by Doug Chandl er who had a terrible start a nd worked from th e rear to ch a lle n ge a ll and wind up gelling stuck behind Johnson who had th e right lines. MAY 12 Under a super bright moon it was Baylands Racewa y Park hosting another super motocross race tonight with over 300 riders enterin g and ea ting up th e ultra fast and beautiful co urse. Rodney Smith. a board hi s pot ent Suzuki. all but destroyed th e al ways fa st I25cc Pro field. Smith. wh o was a fir st tim e rid er at Baylands. came from another district and sh owed wh o was the number one rider in th e area on th is night. Into the fir st turn it was Smith followed by th e co ns istent Rick Ryan with past winner Mike Wh a len taking his bike to th e hi gh side of turn one. Smith set th e pace as th e rest of th e p ack started to fall back. R yan and Whal en battled itout o f tu rn nine with R yan ca tch in g a berm and losing hi s bike. Over half th e field went by Ryan before he finall y reco vered a nd go t ba ck u n der p ower. H e put o n a show o f rid ing skills th at eq ua led Sm ith 's super rid in g a bilities to tak e seco n d behind Sm ith a nd a hea d of Wh al en . The seco nd rn oto was a runa way for Sm ith.
