While Craig Burns did set a new one-eighth mile record with the Burns/Berry/Hahn Racing Kawasaki Funnybike at 6.10 seconds at 149.76 mph, the winner of the IDBA event was Bo. O'Brochta on the JBC Industries Kawesaki. Burns also became the first Funnybike to break the foursecond barrier with a 4.96, but that was not backed up. Former Wor ld Trials Cha m p io n Bernie Schreiber will appear in the upc om ing movie Footsteps. The T om Burrnan-directed movie will film in Orego n this summer. SWM factory rider Schreiber will be featured as himself in a sequence designed to showcase his awesome riding skills. Schreiber, the winner of the '82 Scottish Six Days and currently second in the World Observed Trials Champ ionship, will spend several weeks at home in California following the June 27 Wor ld round to be held in northern California's Donner Pass. AMA Land Use Coord ina tor Roy Janson, CMDA executive Director H y Weitzman and California lobbyist Geo rge Mill er met recently with Ca liforn ia Govern or J erry Brown to discuss the California OHV Fund. The trio sought su pport for the return of $8.5 m ill ion removed by state legislators, and argued a~inst the rem ova l of another $8.5 mtllion that is in the budget bill curren tly before law makers. "The meeting with Governor Brown was very straight forward," said Janson. "The governor conveyed to us the seriousness of California's budget situa tion , and we took the opportunity to relate to the governor the importance of the O H V program to the h undreds of thousa nds of Ca lifornia residents who enj oy motorized recreation. While it was understood that the governor could not offer any absolute committment toward relieving the OHV Fu nd controversy," J anson cont inued, " he did offer h is assurance that he was aware of the pos iti on of Ca liforn ia OHV users and that he would offer whatever sup port he co uld to mi n imize budget impacts on the OHV community." A few weeks ago, Papa told you about a " Baldwin Hills" OHV Park project being prepared by the Los Angel es County Department of Parks and Recreation . Well, Papa goofed a little. It 's the Baldwin Park OHV area , and there's a public hearing on the matter scheduled for June 15. Seems that some of the Baldwin Park city councilmen want to use the proposed OHV park site for an industrial complex. So, there will be a hearing on the matter on the aforementioned date , starting at 7 p.m. at San Angelo Park, 245 S. San Angelo Ave., in Bassett, CA. T he County Parks and Rec fol ks will be at the hearing to present noise and other environmental studies tha t they 've done, and they 'd li ke the support ofall interested motorcyclists, especially residents of the Baldwin Pa rk area. Organizers of the June 26-27 World Trials Championship round at Donner Ski Ranch h.ve put out a call for owners of classic and vintage tri.ls bikes to join them in Reno on Frid.y, June 26 for a motorcycle show to precede the weekend's competition. Owners who show their bikes will receive free tickets to the trials .nd to the aw.rds banquet on Sunday night.
