P h il Larson (H igh la nd Ho n/Ho n Support) added the ici ng to th e ca ke with h is wins in both the 250 and Open Pro classes, going for three o f lour moto wins. Larson swe p t th e Open Pro class with a I-I but h ad to sett le for seco nd behind teammat e Bob Buffal oe in moto two o f 250cc Pro. It rained like o n ly in th e movies, com in g down in buc kets a ll day and making for so me horri bl y messy racing. T he sand tu rned soupy for the Pros on Sunday. wh ile the Ama teurs got the better of the da ys to race (Sa tur day), bu t also ran th eir fin al m oto o n Su nday. The lar gest of th e Pro c1ases was th e 250s, a t 30 riders, a ltho ugh when th e sta rt of th e mot o ca me up, only 20 graced the ga te. H usqvarna rider Eri c Eaton was one rider heavily favored to win , but he took a sp ill that resulted in a broken arm . In moto one it was Larson who came smoking out of th e ga te to lead over John Christian, J r. (Bellev ue Yam ). Tom Moen (Skagi t Yam )andTom Poage (Hig hland Hon ). Larson wasted very little ti me di sappearing from the others while Christian , Moen, Poage and Nathan Pippert (Ho n) diced it ou t behind. The sou p was gettin g the best of the majority of the riders, except those determined not to let it do so . Larso n, a superb all around rid er , wa s lappin g rid ers by the midway point in the race and by now th e field had thi n ne d do wn to a 15-rider pack . At the wh ite flag it was La rson, Christian. Poage, Moen an d Pippert. wh o held posi tion at the che ckered. Moto two was staged in a co mplete downpour. La rso n again sp u rted into th e lead over Buffal oe, Bruce Irwin (Suz/ Yam Northwest ) an d Jimmy And er son (Mo to -X Fox/ Yamhill Yam ). An derso n got by Irw in for third bu t ran into trouble when faced with the tas k a t ge tti ng by Buffal oe, who in tu rn took Larson for the lead whe n Ph il dropped it in the slop. In I25cc Pro ac tion, rno to one had 19 riders enter turn one am idst th e sloppy cond itions. Eri c Hall (LO P/ Yamhill Ya m ) led the pack over Cory Klaud t (Seatt le Hon ), Stacy T ho rnto n (Bellev ue Yam) a n d Anderson. H all 's lea d lasted on ly a lap as the
