Tube power Weren't any Winston Pro Series races ta p ed la st yea r by ABC ( Wide World of Sports ) of CBS (Sports Spec tacular)? If so, why haven't they been aired? If fla t tracking is ever going to become more popular it has to be through the almigh ty tube. Wouldn't it be worth it if everyone interested in the sport wrote just one letter each to ABC and CBS? WIST JIM BLANKEN Hinsdale. IL America's weekly motorcycle newspaper ABC telecast Nationals from DuQuoin (Illinois) and San Jose (Calif ornia) in 1981. They hold an option on both events for 1982, plus some negotiating has been going on concerning theJuly 3 Indy Mile. If that event is taped it will most certainly be switched from Saturday night to Sunday afternoon, July 4. Yes, letters to the networks do influence what they air . Tony's off to New York Just to let you know - I'm lea ving Continental Tire and mo ving to New York state. Frank Stacy and I have formed a partnership and bought Zoar Moto Park in Springville. NY . We will open Mar. 20 with a motocross school conducted by Frank, followed by a full season of MX . hare scrambles. BMX and ATV events. We hav e no immediate plans to continue the SCORE off-road four-wheel events. Zoar promises to be one of this country's best facilities. We will do our. best to see it reach its full potential. Many thanks to all the distributors , dealers and consumers who bought Conti tires and made my job so easy over the years. Special thanks to Arnold Van Ruitenbeek the number one boss with the number one tires . To all my friends in the industry: I'll be in touch; we need sponsors! TONY McANDREW Western Sales Manager Continental Tire The shaft drops here I'm wnung this letter as a conclusion to the one I wrote you a week ago co ncerning a ticket I rece ived on my bike for riding in the d irt. I rece ived a notice sa ying I could just pay the ticket. It was a mere $80. I decided to fight it (big mistake). Everything we said to the jud ge he shot down, and said we could go for a jury trial or receive sentence then. Needless to say , to hire a lawyer to go to a jury trial would be even more expensive. so we decided to take the judge's decision on the fine then. But. the previous fine was no longer effective. The judge sentenced us to 30 days in county jail. suspended for one year, a fine of $150 plus penalty assessments (whatever they are) so the fine ended up $240 . Now if we get caught riding in the dirt again with in 12 months . we will go to jail for 30 days. Can you believe thatl Our fine was tripled by trying to figh t it. Such justice. This was a first time offense for both of us. I'd hate to see what would happen if I should ever run a stop sign in the next 12 months . Pretty soon we'll be seeing signs along th e road tha t say.
