Amateur John Sarrail was hoping to keep that application to a minimum and jumped off the line with a nice holeshot but Saltzman's expertise was just too strong today and by the end of the first lap and through to the end of the last lap it was Expert Saltzman in first and Amateur Sarrail in second. Another Expert, Jim Burt, held onto third for half the race but super fast Novice Jerry Whelchel took that spot by midway to finish in third overall and way" way in front of the other Novices. This new track is a very tight one and in certain areas passing is just about impossible. Get· ting the holeshot is more important than ever if you want that first. The track featured such goodies as a wooden bridge with an underpass, some series of jumps, and in one particular area there are a slew of peaky jumps that the Pros take in two leaps but other mortals - well; all these are part of the new excitement at the Dune'S. Bob Millner took the lead to begin the action in the Masters class and kept right on until he had first place all to himself. Then what did Millner do the second time around but pull another first? Dick Mosley, always in there with all he's got, came in secod in the first moto. while flying in with second in the second moto was none other than "Movin' Marv" Olson. Expert Ron Clawson didn't slow down in all that sand; he just kept the power going all the while to win moto one. Lou Sorenson had the right combination of power and luck and ran away with second. Dick Frampton did some moving up in the ranks in a hurry and assumed third place. Hal Grady led all the Experts in the second moto right up to his first place win. Clawson, always in there with the winners, took a fast second and the overall win. Sorens'on followed Clawson in for third.
