thern Nevada- Southern CaUf, ~.c. .A9~ H£1leAil1h: Myerscough dominates DeAnzaMX Cfij By Kit Palmer SUNNYMEAD, CA, SEPT. 13 Seemingly unaffected by a five month racing layoff, Brian Myerscough (Suz) showed up at DeAnza Cycle Park last week to demolish the 250cc Pro class, winning both motos with ease. When the gate dropped for the first moto, Myerscough forced his way into the lead pursued by Chris Howard (Mai) and the Riverside Suzuki duo of Jon Friesen (Suz) and Keith Dysert (Suz). By the end of the firs~ lap Myerscough had already pulled a sizable lead. Howard did a good job by keeping Myerscough wit h i n his sight throughout most of the .moto but couldn't quite keep up with the quick pace Myerscough was setting. The battle for second was in high gear as Friesen tried to hold off the aggressive Dysert. Friesen finally gave in at the halfway point, letting the Suzuki rider have third. The gap between Myers-. cough and Howard began to narrow after. Myerscough's front tire developed an untimely £lat. But Myerscough had enough insurance to still take the win over Howard. Third place went to Dysert followed by Friesen. Once again Myerscough grabbed the lead at the start of the second moto trailed by Howard, Dysert and Friesen. Myerscough had no problems this time and ran away for an easy win. A content Howard had to settle for second while Friesen held off Dysert to finish third. Dean Cates (Suz) holeshot into the lead in the 125cc Pro class with Yamaha sUJ1port rider Troy Blake (Yam) and Rick Rodgers (Yam) hot on his tracks. Cates couldn't gain any advantage over Blake in the early laps. But Blake did develop a small lead when he passed the Suzuki rider on the third lap. Blake went on to win while Cates and Rodgers followed respective· Iy. In the second moto Rodgers jumped into the lead with Blake a~d Cates directly behind. For the next six laps th~ three riden never got more than a bikelength apart as they fought for the lead. During the sixth lap both Blake and Cates got around Rodgers. Cates stayed a close second, but Blake held on for the win. Vincent Gonzales (Suz) finished with a 3-1 combination to take top honors in the 250cc Intermediate class. Women's National champ Dede Cates (Suz) consistently finished second in both motos to take second overall. Third place went to Kelly McGuire (Yam) who convincingly won the fust moto but narrowly missed out to Cates in the second moto. - 23rd~ ANNUAL 20· LAP SEASON FINALE HALF-MilE NATIONAL WITH· JUNIO~ ADVANCE TICKETS ALSO AVAILABLE AT THE GREAT TIE BREAKER!!!
