Once again, Eric MacCracken
took his Malcolm Smith Yamaha
to another convincing win in the
combined Pro class. at Corona
Racewa,...,The Pro riden elected to race
for only one purse due to a light
turnout. Although the I25cc riden
were at a slight disadvantage, they still
managed to place well in the standings.
In the fint moto the horsepower of
MacCracken and Yamaha of Cuca·
monga's Ted Hoyt roosted their way
into the lead followed by the thrtt
125cc riden, HRP's Brent Blount
(Suz), Rick Rodgen (Yam) and Harley
Hall (Suz). By the second lap Blount
put the move on Hoyt for second while
Hall also made his move by passing
Rodgen for founh. MacCracken con·
tinued his route until the finish. The
rest of the paclr. followed in order.
'.
When the gate dropped for the sec·
ond moto it was MacCraclr.en who
grabbed the holeshot followed closely
by Hoyt, Rodgen and Hall. It looked
as though Hoyt might give MacCraclr.en
a race, but Hoyt's effons ended early
when he washed out in a sandy berm.
Blount ran into him, causing a
momentary break in the 125cc rider's
pace. As MacCraclten began to run
away all eyes were o'n the second place
battle betwttn Rodgen and Hall. But
the battle was over early when Rodgers
went down, a victim pf the stadium
whoops. Meanwhile, Blount reeled in
Hall after his earlier mishap, only to
lowside with two laps remaining.
MacCraclr.en went on to another easy
win, followed by Hall, Blount and Hoyt.
Jaclr. Scott of Pomona Yamaha took
top honon in the l!50cc Intermediate
class by consistently winning both
motos, Scott's closest competitor was
Yamaha·mounted
Kevin
Broob.
Broob hounded Scott throughout the
fint moto but couldn't quite match
Scott's perfonnance. Another Yamaha
of Pomona rider, Rusty Taflinger, put
in a good ride, finishing behind
Broob. Founh spot went to Scott
Conaway.(Yam).
The second moto wasn't quite as
easy for Scott when Broob took command on the second lap: Trailing
Broob were Scott, Taflinger and Con·
away. Broob couldn't shake Scott as
the two leaden began to pull away
from the pack. The two riden were
dicing for the lead throughout the
moto until Scott slipped by Broob on
the white flag lap to take the win and
the overall. While the two leaden
b,ttled. Conaway and Taflinger were
engaged in their own duel. Like Scott,
Conaway also waited until the last lap
to pass Taflinger for third.

CEET Racing Products and Rus·'
tan's Yamaha Parts each tossed
ner would take it all. A lot of fans
stayed until the end of the evening to
see how well the Pros could negotiate
the turns and jumps going the wrong
way.
The win went to factory Kawasaii
.rider Goat Brelter. who was making his
fint appearance of the year at OCIR.
Goat took the lead out of the gate and
held on as most everyone was being
cautious. On the second lap Harley
Hall fell in what was the normal fITSt
tum and was out of the race, The next
lap Tony Gomez 'lite it in the whoop·
de·dOOlS but was OK. Breker maintained
his lead while on the last lap Richard
Collins really let it fly off the big jump
but could not improve his position,
T~e 250cc Novice class seemed as
though Bill Scott was going to win
both motos easily but engine problems
in the second moto caused him to fall
baclr., Scott took the holeshot in the
fint moto with Todd Cunningham
right behind. On the second lap Dale
Himmelreich moved by Larry Wood·
house for third place and began to
move up on Cunningham. Cunningham
held him off until the final lap when
problems put him back to fifth. Him·
melreich finished second with Rick
Hughes in third.
In the second moto it was Scott in
the lead until the second lap when the
motor went sour. Hughes toolr. over the
lead after a good stan and took the
win. Cunningham was second and Larry
WoodhouJe third. Overall it was Rick
Hughes the winner with a 5·1. second
went to Himmelreich with a 2·4.
In 9pen Beginner fint overall
ended up going to Tim Huddleston
who scored a 5·2 on his Kawasaki. Eric
Benson shot out in the lead during the
fint moto with Jim Devine and Brian
Blander second and third. Huddleston
caught Blander on the second lap and
the three leadeR stayed in their spots
the rest of the moto,
In the second moto Eric Benson
again toolr. the lead but crashed on the
second lap, giving the lead to Huddle·
ston. He was passed on the next lap
when Rex Bonham ~ut his KTM in the
lead: to stay. Devine was third and
couldn't move up. Bonham's 5·1 tally
was only good enough for fourth
overall behind Huddleston, Devine
and Benson.
