with Schlegel second. Johnson was
third over Benavidez and Tim Lunde
(Yam).
Jeff Jennings (Hus) has been one of
the dominating factors at CMC Saddleback especially in tbe Open class. Not
too many riden can maintain the
hard driving pace that keeps Jennings
a winner. Scott Johnson (Mai) did have
the stamina to beat the Hwsqvarna
rider but not without some muscle. In
moto one Jennings went out to an early
lead but Johnson hung right onto Jen·
nings lilte a trailer. Maico·mounted
Steve Banning and Dave Gerig (Hus)
also had a grudge match developing
for third place. Many times during the
moto Johnson pulled up side by side
with Jennings but the experienced
Jennings fought his way ahead of the
490 Maico and kept the lead for 14
laps. Johnson finished second over
Banning and Gerig.
It was not until the 12th lap onmoto
two that Jennings felt the heat. Johnson again trailed Jennings but he put a
fantastic move on Jennings and the
only thing the Husky could do was let
off as Johnson took the lead. John.
son's 2-1 score against Jennings' 1·2
was the difference in the overall. Dale
Lewis (Mai) was third overall and a
hard crash in mota two pushed Gerig
back to fourth overall.
