New BiJr.c Scott Manning (Yam) and Robb Manning (Suz) heJd a real donnybrook for what became third after Hall dropped out. Scott came off the line in fourth and Robb had to get by Steve Pless (Suz) and Danny Diesso (Suz) to work on Scott. They exchanged positions several times and never were beyond spitting distance from each other. Diesso finished firmly in fifth. Pless suffered a DNF. In the second round, Hall led the charge. Anderson, Scott Manning, Mike McCormick (Yam), Diesso and Pless all managed to squeeze through ahead of Holland. By lap two, Anderson took over the lead and started pulling away from the traffic. Holland picked up a position a lap for several laps untiJ he came up behind Manning who held him off for a while. By the halfway mark, Holland held second, but Anderson had a lot of time on him. Holland appeared to let up for the last few laps leaving Anderson a good lead at the flag. This time, Hall had plenty of gas to hold on for third. Who was behind him? For over half the race it was Manning and Manning again. This time, Scott held firmly in fourth all the way. Diesso followed them again. The 250cc class had their ups and downs. Gary Kuest (Yam) took the holeshot on the first moto. Anderson, Juan Benavidez (C· A), Holland and Rick Burgett (Yam) filled out the top five. When they all cleared the second turn. Eric Eaton's Maico could be heard screaming to a deadly, fried silence after he landed in the woods when the throttle stuck. Anderson took the lead on the second lap, but by the next time around Holland was in front, and Anderson Ilmped in with mechanical failure. Benavidez dumped it and dropped to 10th. Burgett took over second one the third lap and stayed right on Holland as they pulled away from the pack. Scott Manning held third behind them. On the final lap, Burgett was hot on Holland's tail but didn't find the opening. Benavidez worked his way back up as far as fourth at the flag. David Gerig (Hus) was fifth and Bob Buffaloe (Yam) was sixth. When the gate fell on round two Benavidez, Holland and Anderson shot out first. Burgett, Randy Amos (Hon), Chris Cole (Yam) and Terry McGinnis (Yam) wound up in a giant pile in the first turn. Burgett was last going and way back. When the pack came around to complete the first lap, Holland held up his whoa hand and coasted to a stop. By the time he turned his gas on, all but the four who crashed had gone by. Anderson took the lead on the third go 'round, and Scott Manning fell in behind Benavidez until he laid it down, He remounted and went at it again until he stuck his foot in a hole and eventually pulled off to nurse his knee while waiting for the flag. Ed Arnet (Mai) and Buffaloe gained a spot at Manning's expense, but it wouldn't last. Holland was on his way up. At the midway mark, Anderson had a good lead, and Benavidez was hanging onto second. Holland was in fourth and pecking at Arnet. With a third of the race left. Holland took third and moved to second on the final lap. Burgett managed to work up to follow Arnet in for fifth, and Buffaloe was sixth. In the Open class, Eaton and Burgett had already switched the lead a couple of times when Burgett laid it down coming out of the final turn.. When he picked the bike up it tried to leave without him. By the time they got together Eaton, Gerig and A~t had gone on without them. Eaton held the lead alone for three more laps before he threw the chain and had to push it off. Gerig inherited the lead and held it for a third of the moto before Burgett found his way through to take the lead for good. Gerig, Arnet, Shane Blood (Yam), Gary Rabe (Hus) and Karl Landrus (Mai) filled the top six spots. Coming down the hill beyond the second turn in the second moto, Burgett had a little edge on Eaton. Eaton tried to go to the outside in turn three, got in the loose dirt and went over the bars. Arnet and John Saggau (Yam) wound up on top of him. Burgett led with Gerig on his tail for the first laps. Rabe was back a bit in third. Eaton began to plow through but ran out of time when he got to third. Arnet, Mike O'Driscoll (Hus) and Rabe followed. • Results 125 REGiONAl PRo: 1. Jim _ I Y a m i 2-1; 2. George Holland ISuz) 1·2; 3. Scoll Maming (Yam) 4-4; 4. Robb Manning (Suzl 3-5; 5.
