Hartman, Holley have at It at CRC nlghtMX By Lee Teylor VALENCIA, CA, AUG. 28 Jim Hartman, piloting a Suzuki for .Trackmaster, racked up .an. impressive pair of wins in the 125cc Intermediate contest at the California Racing Club's every other Friday night motocross at Indian Dunes. I,eading off the grid in the first round, Hartman was pTellllUred by Mark Davenport and John Peters. ' When the moto finally wound to a close, it was Hartman who led the way with Davenport and Peters following close behind. The second round of action mirrored the first as a nervous duel between Hartman and Davenport went down for the class win. Hartman maintained control, leaving Davenport to try to hold Jon Alexander to third. By the end of the night Hartman rolled his bike into victory circle, Davenport took home second place gold and third overall honors went to Bob Mansfield. The first I25cc Pro round found j.im Holley developing a strong lead, sailing by bike after bike on the start and into the first lap. Roost Factory Suzuki rider Rick Maki was right there in .second,. going after Holley. With Jt;rome Hei· berger taking qver third from Eric Shimp anei Robbie Healy when several riders went down, the .pressure on Malti was remarkable, but he finished the first round in second. The second mota found Holley en·' gaged in a duel with fellow Yamaba support ra~ Steve Schmitz. These two brought everyone tracltside for a he.avy duel that carried them down to the . end' with Louie Franco, alSo Yamaha mounted and riding for CRF, egging them both on. When the fin",l check· ered flag came out Holley scooped up the winner's share, Schmitz took down second overall money and third place loot went home with Franco. ·Erif!. BUskirk (Yam) has been making waves every time he appears on the line. The 250cc Pro class this night was no exception. BUskirk quite simply took over and gathered an im· pressive pair ~ back·to·back wins for the night. The first round saw Rusty Wageman out in front and fighting to hold back Buskirk. John Biffle (Kolbe Cycle Han) was locked into mortal combat with Randy Commans, Rob Tolleson and Tom Webb for the third place slot. 'Commans went down in a sweeper and Wageman, who had lost several posi.tions since the start, was right on top of Biffle in a bid for second. On the dark end of the track, Wageman made his move and· slipped a wheel under Biffle for second. By moto's end, Buskirk was leading the way, Wageman was still in second and Biffle was a strong third: The second round found Biffle dead last off the start but managing to whip his way into second by the first tum. Buskirk once more held command as Wageman slipped by Biffle into second. Tolleson soon followed suit, leaving Biffle in fourth. Results 110 BEG: 1. William Crowford IKowI; 2. Jeff Mmory IKow); 3. OCIR MX By Steven Crosby IRVINE, CA, AUG. 27 The usual Mini Expert turnout on a Thursday night is one or less, but' this Thursday ~as an exception. Many of the top'mini riders in southern Ca\iforpia decided to come ou~ 'and test their ·skills on' the tight stadium style qCIR track. R&D Suzuki rider Mike Healey came 'out on', top in the M.ini Expert class.' . . In the first moto Kawasaki rider .Sam Storer sto.rmed out 'of 'the gate and took a narrow lead over Healey. Close behind were two Intermediates, Ken Clifton and Mark Toyama. Soon Storer and }kal~ Idt everyone behind while Toyama passed Cliftop for the Intermediat~·lead. Healey stayed with Storer throughout the early going but at the halfway point Store~ began 'to tum it into a one rider affair. Storer won the moto with'Healey second. and Bruce Bunch in third ... In the second. moto the holeshot went to Healey with Storer and Bunch right on his tail. Bunch fell back a little ways after the first lap and Storer began to throw everything he knew at Healey. Healey, who had.come to prac· tice racing in the turns, was able to fend off Storer on the straights and open up a few feet in the turns. On the fourth lap Storer fell in a dusty turn and stalled the bike. Bunch was right there to take over second and set out after Healey. Storer was' not out for long and within two laps was right with the leaders. On the final lap Storer passed B"unch and had one last· shot at Healey. But Healey was still up to the challenge and took the' overall win with a 2-1 tally. Premier's Mark Toyama again topped the Intermediatedass. While Warren Reid won the'25Occ Pro dass again there was qu.ite a battle among the 1'25cc class. Anaheim Datsun's Richie Collins took the lead in the first moto with Brent Blount and Danny Barthlomew close behind'. Harley Hall passed Bartholomew for third on th~ second lap with Tony Gomez moving into fourth a lap later. Meanwhile, Collins opened up a lead with Bloum in second. Gomez and· Hall went at it for the rest of the. m6to with Gomez finally getting by on the last lap. . @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ @ @ @ ~~ @ @ ~ @ @ @ @ @ @ ONl~ V @ @ ~ U~ ~ @ ~." ~~' --j/~ : @ @ @ --' @ @ @ . @ @ .
