JULY 12 American Motocross Enterprises presented its $1000 Silver Dollar Grand Prix at Indian Dunes, and in the end, Eric MacCracken, David Taylor and Jon Nelson took home the majority of coin. The start of the race was on the Shadow Glen circuit. with the course winding its way through the hills and sandwash bdore returning to the finish line back on Shadow Glen. In the Open Pro race, MacCraeken pulled the holeshot on his Malcolm Smith Yamaha and proceeded to pull away from the competition. Cole Bros.! Maico West-sponsored Tracy Oswell placed aecond, fono-d by Kern Sportcyc1e Husky pilot Greg Torgerson. In tbe 2SOcc Pros, Steve Rawson (Kolbe C-A) pulled the holeshot and led through the fust corner. However. as tbey dropped down into the long sandwash. LaHabra Yamaha's David Taylor took over. Taylor held on to take tbe win over O'Neall Dirt Bilce standard bearer Ken Zahrt. Yamaha support rider lim Holley, who rode in the Superbow of Motocross the night bdare. fmished third. The 12Scc Pro class saw Moto-X Fox Yamaha rider Jon Nelson take the win over Riverside Suzuki's Rick Rodgers and Simi Cycles Suzuki-mounted JimSimons. It was a YamahalKTM sandwich in the 12Scc Intermediate ranks, where Yamaha riden Gary Depillo and John Alexander placed fint and third with Darin Hargis in between on his KTM. Andy Richard (Yam) did the deed in the 2S0cc Intermediates, winning over Richard Ising (Yam) and Rick Roark (Suz).
