Williams wild at Cros.-UpMX By Suanne Ught BEND, OR,JULY 12 Eugene's Steve Williams (Yam suppon) was the big winner at Cross-Up Raceway in the 250cc Pro class while Open Pro went to Husky rider Roger Norris of Bend. ' 38 Williams put a heavy dent in CI'OlISUp's 250cc Pro clllll as be went to the front of the pack at thr stan of the IDOto fono-d by Salem rider Mike Holbrook (Suz Sports Center), Les Link (Yamaha Store), Norris and Joe Knight (Yam IRIpport). WilliaDII was having a ~cnic up front all by himself while Knight blazed through the ~ck taking Holbrook, Link and Norna in one swoop. Knight was going WFO and gaining a couple seconds a lap on Williams who stanN to pull out a big lead_ In the late going, Knight reeled Williams in and made an attempt at the lead, but Williams held his own roosting Knight with a And shower. WiUiaDII took the win with Knight in second over Holbrook, Link and Norris. Second sandstorm AW Wl1liamngain go wild with Linlt putting on the pl8ll1re in second while Holbrook, Norris and Knight aein held down the early top spots. Williams went unchall~ as he took the moto win while a late moto pileup between overanxious Holbrook, Norris and Kni,ht kept thete three tied up 6f.ettin Linkfree for IIeC01ld. Knight u ed his ride quickest to finish thi while Holbrook and Norris followed. Overall, it was Yamaha suppon rider WI1liama first with his I-I over Knight's 2-5 and Linlt's 4-2. Founh went to Holbrook with a 5-4 over Norris' conailtent 5-5 for the Open Pro overall. A bnuh fire delayed the stan of the 250cc Intennediate race, but once underway, it proved to be "hot." Davl., Smith sna. Clark. Branch MXwins By Suanne Ught ROSEBURG, OR,JULY 11 Ralph Huffman's long, hard work paid off in this series of Saturday races at Clarks Branch, as track conditions were superb. Huffman spent all night Friday watering, only to have Roy Davia (Yamhill Yam) destroy it in the 125cc Pro clllll and again by Rick Smith (Roseburg Hon/Yam) in 250cc Pro action. Davia got the edge in moto one of the 125ee Pros, leading! into the ftnt tum with Rick Smith (Yam) and Richard Earle (OG/Cycle Country Hon) following. Davia took off and held a huge lead while Smith and Earle traded spots, until Smith took command late in the moto. Davia demolished the field as he put nearly a half lap on Smith and Earle. Moto two had Smith take the holeshot with Earle in second and Davia working to third. It took Davia only three turns. and by the time they reached the uphill. Davia was the new leader. Smith displaced Earle and was making up two seconds a lap and gaining on Davia who was again disappearing from the othen. Smith would close in, but late in the moto fell in a loamy corner letting Earle by for second. Davia' machine was running lOUT but he had such a huge lead that{he was untouchable. Smith pused Earle by midway but couldn't catch Davia. Davia went on for a double moto blitz over Smith's 2-2 and Earle's consiltent 5-5 finishes. In 250cc Pro racing, Davia was again in command o';'r teammate Clay Light (Yamhill Yam), Smith (Yam), California's Rod Nordstrom (C6:R Hon) and Gary Bault (Yam). Nontrom picked off Light which then set up a battle between Smith, Light and Bault, who were ~ over third until an over-enthUllastic track waterer put too much water in the downhill corner lIeDding Light alidina down the hill with Bault and Smith colliding, ~tting Smith into third. Davia got nd of Nordstrom and went on for the win with a cozy lead over Nordstrom, Smith, Bault and Light who remounted for fifth. Second moto had Davia inside and Smith outside for holeahot honon while Nordstrom went in between the two for second behind Davia, who on lap one was already stretching ou.t a lead. Nordstrom was holding down second while Smith, Bault and Light were again going for third. Davia =~ a Oat rear tire and was10aing , dropping to founh. Nordstrom went into the lead but loIIt it to Smith and then Bault who thought the race was over when Davia and Light both DNF putting Nordstrom back in second and Smith taking the win. Sound confusing? It wasl Overall, it went Smith (5-1), Nordstrom (2-2) and Davia (1-4). Re.ults PEE WEE JR: 1. ~ HoidlDcaii fYlm/; 2. " Hu!Inwl fYlm/: 3. ~ ~ fYlm/. PEE WEE INT: 1. Jeff Dolly fY_~ 2. Newray FREMONT...CA, JULY 8 Baylands Raceway held their biggest motocross night ever as nearly 275 riden from as far away as Redding to the nonh and .Palm Springs to the south gathered to put on a super-fast show. With help from track promoter Tim Myers and other Bay1anda track crews, the newly formed motocrOll track attracts more and more racen every week. In the very stout 250cc Pro field, Shawn McConn rode to the overall lint place honors by riding his Yamaha to two uncontested willi while David Wood used fmishea of second and third to capture second place followed by Steve Manin. In the 125cc Pro division, lut week's J"IlDDeI'-Up Willie Miller came back out with a veangeance as he totally dominated the diviaion with two lints to take the checkered flag for the overall tide, with Rick Ryan in second and Randy Blair in third. Probably the sU7,rise of the evening came from local nder Jeff Kniu. Jeff raced lut year as a Novice and stanN this year u a Junior. Durin, his lint three races as a Junior, Kniss placed first two times and third once, so he decided to try a jump to the 250cc Intennediate daIS and had real good luck with a lint and a founh, and in this week's motOl ran away with both races. Following Kniss was Mike Subocz with two second place finishes and in third was Craig Hall with a founh and a fifth place finish. The 125ee Intermediates AW Dorene Payne fight Troy Barazoto for the overall tit1e with Payne winning the second moto in order to win the overall followed by Steve Alarcon and Troy Barazoto. With each week of racing, a larger number of Junior racers show up for some of the good competition. The fint weelt saw only one division of Juniors, and in this the sixth week, we find three very full divisions. In the 80cc Junior race, Many Cooper dazzled the crowd with super performances in his motOl by leading every lap and taking the overall title with Vmce Vacente coming in second. Results 2150 PROS: 1.
