the ones who stayed up. Scott Briard
took the lead on lap one, lost it to
Steve Crawford on lap two but
regained it for the win on lap three.
Crawford was aecond and Dave Fonu
wuthird.

In the Junior division, Mike PUIODI
made it an all-win weekend, winning
the Junior main in Auburn last night
and repeating it at Napa tonight. Ban
Bait wu aecond and Coora Wright
third.

Mike Faria proved once again
why be wears nonhero California's
big number one in winning his
third Scratch main in a row at
Aubum tonight, making it three in a
row! This one was apecial for Mike ..

he held off the evening's sFal
attraction from SoCal, Alan Christiao
who excells in Scratch riding with an
82% win averagel It was literally a
fiery racel
Faria got an ouutanding stan off
the line from the pole poaition u
Chriatian lost control for a moment,
pushing out Eddie Ingels who, in tum,
pushed Duane Yarrow into the wall in
tum two causing sparks to fly from his
engine like a dozen Founh of July
sparklers. The race wu over for
Yarrow.
The race continued, but Chriatian,
very much under control by now, wu
unable to turn it on enough to catch
"Flyin' Mike" u he won his third
Auburn Scratch main in a row by only
half a bike length. Christian made hUn
work for it u the capaciry crowd went
wild. They had braved the 106 degree
weather to see Chriatian, but were they
ever thriDed to see their star win.
In the Handicap main, Steve Elstins
took the lead holding off the Nonh's
top three point leaden - Yarrow,
Faria and Ingels, in that order - for
the fint three laps. On lap three,
Yarrow came on the inside for the
lead, and Faria moved into Second
forcing Elstins to third. On lap four,
Elstins dropR¢ to fifth as Ingels
moved into third and Chriatian founh.
Coming into tum four on the lut lap,
it looked like a four-mao Scratch race
as Yarrow, Faria, Ingels and Chriatian
came into the tum side by side.
Yarrow managed to tum on the
strongest drive for the exciting finish
followed by Faria, Ingels and
Christian, making the finish an
official's nightmare.
In the Division Two main, it turned
out to be another three-.in-a-row situation as Pat Linn took the lead from
Dave Norman on lap three and
dominated
the
race
with
a
considerable lead to the finish. Mark
Dragony was second and Mike
McDonald third.
The Division Three main, UlUaDy a
rather boring event, took everyone by
surpriae u it turned out to be full of
aetlon and excitement. Steve Crawford, a former Junior 0... "c"
champion riding his fmt night in 0 . .
"A:: took the lead on lap one. Cun
Miller took the lead on lap three only
to have Crawford take it baclt in tum
four on the last lap. Crawford took the
checkered flag by inches u Miller
puUed a wheelie across the line
attempting to take the win, but it wu
Crawford who went home with the
trophy. Miller wu second and Charlie
Haines third.
In the Junior division, Ban But
won both heau and Mike Parsons took
home his fmt Junior aiain trophy of
theseuon.

Robinson hot in
Napa

The Town and Country Fairgrounds in Napa survived the
raging brush fires, and Napa's
promoter, Dennis Robinson,
decided to win a little of his own purse
money for a change. Lookingfantastic
io every race he rode tonight, he shot
into the lead &om position two in the
Scratch maio with Tom Ferris trying
but neve~ reaDy threatening to move
into the lead. Eddie Ingels, in third
position, had bike problems on lap
three causing his early exit from the
race and aDowing Mike Faria to move
into third. On lap four, Faria came on
the inside forcing Ferris into third, but
that was as far as he got as Robinson
grabbed the checkered flag and did a
triumphant fifth lap.
Pat Linn, riding for the first time in
Division One, had a great night,
transferring all the way to the
Handicap main. He took the lead in
the main and looked like a Divisioo
One veteran holding it for the fint
four and three-quanen laps when
Harlan But, Jr., in his usual smooth
style, took the lead in tum four on the
