Yamaha rider Larry Harter cruised in for fourth place and Ron LewiI round~ out the top fIVe on his Suzuki. Suzuki rider Gary Curtis topped t~ UScc Intenn~te division, beating Yamaha·mount~J. Morningstar who came from mid·pack to finish second in t~ final. L. Thomaa pick~ up third on his Yamaha while Ron Hensley finis~ fourth on a Suzuki and Yamaha pilot T. Brady grabb~ rtfth. With Warren Reid out of action and Donnie Hansen pulling hit entry for the UScc c1als ("I just don't feel contfortable on a UScc. "), it look~ lilte the stage was set for a duel be· tween Ron Turner and Marty Moates for the UScc Expert win. However, it was Ron Lechien who I~ the rack as th~ power~ up the start hil and Leehien was never challen~ for t~ lead. Behind L«hien's Yamaha came Mike Tripes and Moates. Moates put the movea on Tripes on the top of t~ downhill and the former s.v. ~ took I LOP rider tri~ to dOle t~ gap on Lechien. . By lap four Lechien had a safe seven second lead on Moates while Yamaha rider Tim Brady began to chaUmge Tripes for third. Radical Ron had .tuff~ t~ gate and gotten a last place start. "I'm s~ I saw it move, maybe someone else bumped it first," no~ Turner later . " Turner was definitely on the move as he slic~ past other riden and turn~ the fastest lap times of the' day while working up to eighth by the halfway point.
