Haslam still had the lead, but the race had developed into a four-way dice with Pretty moving up with the leading three. With seven of the ten laps gone, Crosby passed Haslam with Trinder following him past. On the next lap, Trinder dived past Crosby to take the lead which he held to the line. Crosby was but a bike length behind with Pretty pipping Haslam for third right on the line. Neill was fifth, followed by Coleman, Sayle, Boulden, Cole and Gardner. - $100,000 Pre-Christmas Inventory Reduction Through Our ~ ~ CMCto run Golden State Anticipation is again running high with both sponsors and participants for t he upcoming 1981 DG Golden State Series. The 1981 version of this annual series will be the biggest ever since it all began back in 1977. The series began modestly in 1977 with three events and a total of $7,000. Bobby Jones (125cc), Ron Turner (250cc) and Gaylon Mosier (500cc) captured the class championships that year and equally shared their part of the $1.500 Pro riders' points fund. U.S. Suzuki became involved in 1978. The series grew to seven events with $21,000 plus a $2500 Pro point fund. Danny Turner collected the top share in the 125cc class. It was thenprivateer Rex Staten who controlled the show as he won both the 250 and 500cc class quite easily. Again U.S. Suzuki picked up the sponsorship for the third year, 1979. At this point the series grew to $60,000 in cash and awards. The top Pros for the 1979 series were Suzuki rider Brian Myerscough (l25cc), Maico-mounted Danny "Magoo" Chandler (250cc) and Husky pilot Goat Breker (500cc) picking up the lion's share of the $3,000 points fund. In 1980 Can-Am picked up the sponsorship of the series with Pro-Trac Trailers of Rancho Cordova coming in with two of their custom trailers for the top mini ,rider. Bruce Bunch was the mini rider with Rino Navara receiving the second Pro,T rac for his efforts. With the three Pro classes going right down to the last event Jim Holley came out on top of the J 25cc class. Mark Lawrence edged out Rex Staten by one point to pick up the 250cc win. and Steve Rhyan got the gold ring in the 500cc class. Now with the 1981 5th Annual Golden State Series due Lo kick offJan. 3-4 at Saddleback Park in Orange. DG will host the series this time for Pro .points fund and products for all sportsman classes. Mini to 500cc plus the- new classes of Vets and Old Timers. Again Pro- Trac has come in to the 1981 series, with' four Pro-Trac Trailers for grand prizes for the sportsman classes: mini, junior. intermediate and for the top point rider in the Vets/Old Timers classes.
