Seriously folks, many Eric MacCracken blew away the rest of the 250cc Pros at DeAnza's motocross. but DNF with mechanieels in the Open. • 50 (Continuedfrom page 48) Randy Morales also tried again, this time in the 500cc event, and was unequivocally the winner of that one. Noticed that someo~ who blithely motored off the side of the bridge into three feet of water was sponing leathers with the caption "Crashin'" on them. They who dabble in self-fulfilling prophecies ... The team race was without a doubt the closest, hardest fought and most exciting of the day. It was a 50-minute fight among three tearns; Jim Weinert/ Randy Lewis, Bill Hagen/Gary Reichenbach and Jim Coffey/Randy Morales. The first few laps saw everybody swapping positions but by the second half, Weinert/Lewis had pulled to a 15 second le'ld over Hagen/Reich· enbach who enjoyed a very slight ad· vantage over Morales/Coffey. With only two laps to go, Hagen did not appear on time. He rode in about a half lap later, having gone down hard just past the river crossing. He lost one lens from his glasses and was forced to ride in with an eye full of sand. There was no chance to make up tbe lost time but Reichenbach took the bike out to finish the race. Weinert took the bike from Lewis out for the last lap and what appeared to be a sure win. But appearances aren't money in the bank unless you're in Hollywood. Suddenly, the checkered flag was out and a surprised Morales/Coffey team found themselves 'the winner! With victory in his glove. Weinen's bike had run out of gas, and. after 50 minutes of great riding, was forced to DNF. A special commendation to the Mini teams entered in this race. They not only kept up with some of the big bikes; they passed many of them. Their race was similar to the big guys in that· it was fast and close but it didn't have any dramatic changes at the finish. Jeff Barbacovi and Don Feeley took the win with Mouse McCoy and Larry Brooks getting second. An extra round of applause to Mouse for his high zoot riding style in getting around the lumpy sweeper tum right after the swap stop. .The start of the Mini's race in the morning was marred by the disturbing spectacle of a Ia:rge and lumpy man in a ridiculous costume, ho·hoing ludicruously and trying to lure the kids away from the start line with gifts of candy. As he staggered about in the wash like a cat in a litter box, someone started the rumor that this was the fabled "Sandy ClawsI" (Oohh. bad thanks to Don Anderson for putting Santa Claus into the "Santa Claus" Grand Prix. Foot in typewriter time - I've found out that my comments concerning the ITT Diversified Credit Corp. in the article on the President's Cup GP may have been misunderstood by some. I certainly did not mean to imply that ITT was not in any way connected with motorcycling. Besides having many employees involved in our sport, the company itself is responsible for arranging financing for motorcycle retail businesses. The fact that we are blessed with so many shops at which to find the necessities of our sport attests to their concern and professional capabilities. I personally want to thank them for that as well as for tht'ir sponsorship of the race. I want to take the opportunity to thank all those who have helped me this past year and express my amazement at their patience and good will. Results 80 NOV: 1. Steve KOlajarv IVam); 2.
