~ Valley - Red M-uln - Plaster CIty - Sean:h1lPt - Sidewinder Roa, Desert Hotlin $10,000 RACING WEEKENDI o~ ""' "'0~~~<> \S'~ presents 3RD ANNUAL #~.,. v~v~ BOSCH CLASSIC ~~:~ ~~ -. ~ MOTO-CROSS $5000 00 ~1 CASH PURSE TO EXPERTS By Chuck Harper ELDORADO DRY LAKE, NV., OCT. 19 Can-Am support rider Kevin "elch put together his biggest win ever with a first overall placing in the grueling 11 th annual Motorcycle Racing Association of Nevada Championship hare and hound. Yamaha·mounted Chris Howard continued his domination of the 250cc Expert ranks, posting his 10th class win of the season with a thrilling third overall fmish. Paul Emerson continued his return to form boiling his Accuracy Engineer· ing/Leon Moore-tuned water·cooled Mugen Honda to a sixth overall, first 125cc Expert poSting. In the age divisions it was out of state Expert Don Fuller (Yam) who took the Over 30 gold back to Fillmore, UT with a ninth overall performance while local Doug Tichenor (Hus) captured the Over 38 , class laurels. The Gamblers M.C. - all seven of them - Bob Maichle, Bob Gabriel, Keith Delzer, Tom Mannillo, Tom Fischer, Bob Prater and Sonny Robertson did their usual fabulous job of single·handedly laying out, marking and promoting a rough, challenging, championship 150 mile one·way run and what a run it was. Also in attendance helping out were the Desert Radio Club communication crew and the So Nev. Volunteer Rescue group. Kelvin Welch led Chris Howard and ISDT Silver medalist Scot Harden (Hus) to the smokebomb and pulled a slight lead on Howard as they full· throttled down a long power·line road. Harden went by Howard and into second overall until he ran out of gas near the first pit. From there it was a Howard/Harden dog·fight to the checkers with the nod goin to Scot by the slightest of margins after numerous crashes and coaxing by both competitors. Welch was wailing with a lead of 2 ~ minutes that was to lengthen to 11 ~ at the finish in a day that was definitely all Kevin's. Welch is historically fast in this event as evidenced hy his early lead in last year's run and eventual second place finish behind none other than Jack Johnson who was not entered this year. Kevin admitted to crashing a half dozen times, twice WFO but he just kept picking it back up and gain' for it. He was obviously pleased at the finish. The 125cc battle was raging hot and heavy between Daryl Folks (Suz), Bennie Brown (Yam), Mike Welch (CA) and Paul Emerson.Welch was the first casulty when he crashed hard hurting his back, ribs and puncturing a front tire. Brown was next when he encountered a rock-pile WFO in a downhill sandwash with no rear brakes. Bennie laid there unconscious until paramedic Over 30 Expert George Antill revived him 15 minutes later. Also sacrificing good fmisher positions to help Brown were overall Amateur leader Danny Anderson and Novice contender Kelly Stoneking. Emerson muck by Folks but promptly crashed and the two raced nip and tuck for many miles until Emerson finally put some distance between them enroute to the checkers. Folks rode brilliantly the remainder of the day and ended up second 125cc Expert and 15th overall, although he did encounter minor problems including over· inflated tires and overshot turns. Although Casey Folks (Hus) missed the start he almost closed the gap on Over 30 winner Fuller in the waning moments of the race as Don's bike was losing its tranny. Folks pressed on but Fuller still had enough cogs to get him to the finish ahead of Casey who pulled in right behind Don at 10th overall, second Over 30 Expert. Team Husky's Chuck Rush rode his usual fast and consistant race for a nifty fourth overall, second 250cc Expert and was followed home by veteran Boulder City 250cc specialist Bobby Davidson (Yam) at third 250cc Expert, fifth ove, rall. Kent Miller held up the esteem of Arizona desert riders, piloting his Yamaha to seventh overall, fourth 250cc Expert while Anthony Pasqualotto (Mai) flattened two tires toward an eighth overall, third Open Expert finish. Husky·mounted Kevin Colan was first overall Amateur while Bill Quinn (Hus) topped all Novices. e Results OPEN EX: 1. KllIIin Welch (C-A); 2. Scot _ IHus); 3. A. P8squIIono lMail. 250cc EX: 1.
