PHILLIPSBURG, KS. SEPT. 21
Nebraskan Russ Pickering made
the trek to Phillipsburg's Coors
Midwest Motocross Championship round 13 and promptly
• HIII'dfeced Cams for All Models
pulled off wins in both the 100 and
125ccjunior classes.
Brian Luedke of Atwood looked like
the rider to put your money on as he
completely dominated the 125cc
Juniors in the first moto with a wire·towire win. Pickering held second place
early on until a second-lap spill put
him in fourth behind Bart Weaver and
Kurt Ross. He recovered and moved
by Ross on the next lap, but couldn't
work past Weaver, much less a "long
gone" Luedke.
Weaver took the start of the second
molO over Luedke and Pickering.
Weaver had 10 be feeling the pressure
of having Luedke trailing, but was
quickly relieved of it when Luedke fell.
then got up to just cruise around the
remaining laps with a flat tire. "I
couldn't believe I fell," said Luedke,
"then I got up, restarted and nearly
fell again before discovering it was because the rear tire was flat'"

Pickering jammed by Weaver on the
third lap and held on for the win and
the overall with a 3-1 tally over
Weaver's 2-2. Luedke still mana!led a
third place overall.
Mastering the holeshots in the 250cc
Seniors was Yamaha rider Kevin
Wagoner of Jennings. who rolled on to
the overall win.
J.D. Sanderson and Dan Hoover
played second and third fiddles to
Wagoner through the first turn, but
Sanderson slipped by for the lead on
the opening lap and rode on 10 the win
over Wagoner and Hoover. Dick
DeWester came in fourth after Craig
Robl dropped back after gelling his
bell rung when his Yamaha shot off
the track out of control nea r the
double jump.
Wagoner shot into the lead of the
second moto and never looked back as
he made it look like an easy win.
Hoover held second briefly before an
abrupt fall dropped him to fourth
behind Robl and Sanderson.

jesse Wessels seems to be untouchable lately in the Open Seniors. and
today was no exception as he worked
his Maico 10 a pair of molO wins. Local
favorite Dan Hoover led the first two
laps on his Yamaha before Wessels
muscled his way by and went on for
the win. J.D. Sanderson was right
behind to give Hoover fits while riding
a borrowed Yamaha. These two
swapped the runner-up position
constantly before Hoover made it stick
ont he final !lo·around.
Wessels got the holeshot in the
second molO and steadily stretched it
Out for a large margin of victory.
Sanderson was in second for the first
lap before Hoover jammed by and
stayed there for second overall.
Bret Weaver won the 250cc juniors
with a 2-1 tally. He led the fiTSt moto
over Curt Eveleigh for several laps
before running off the track and
nearly stalling in an off-camber turn,
allowing Eveleigh by. Eveleigh went on
to win it easily over Weaver and Tim
Reif.
Reif led the start of the second moto
before Weaver worked by on the third
lap. Reif held second all the way over
Eveleigh and Mike Loflin. Eveleigh
claimed second overall over Reif.
Eveleigh came back to win the Open
juniors. He finished second behind
Tom Bohl in the first moto after
playing shadow the entire moto. never
able to slip past. Jerry Jones steadily
improved on a fifth place start for
third.
Eveleigh won the second molO after
working by leader Kelly Lyons at the
halfway point. Lyons held onto second
over Paul Schartz. Bohl"s fifth place
was good enough for second overall
ahead of Schartz.
