Mark contested Eagan (Cycle World/ ND Honda 4OQ-Hawk) for the lead in the early laps, but pulled away from Pat after the fifth lap. Eagan had to contend with more than his opponents on the racetrack to secure second place, however. Pat had been previously protested by an AFM official for using illegal parts, but was subsequently vindicated by the AFM National Board. Unsponsored Martin Vogel (Yam RD400) placed third after he "started slippin' and slidin' and decided to cool it." Gary Broeder again piloted his Palo Alto Yamaha XT500 to the 600cc Production win with Dan Anderson (Yam 500) repeating as runnerup. Ray Straka (Kaw 550) came in third. Straka, incidentally, has been increasingly successful at Golden State, and augmented his 600cc trophy with two more places that occurred in back-toback races (second 600cc Box Stock and third 750cc Box Stock). Straka, one will recall, was the pen;on who loaned his Kawasaki 750 to Mark Shelton a few races ago. Shelton went out and won his Box Stock race, beating numerous Open class (750cc and up) bikes in the process and finishing fin;t overall. Mike Spencer (Champion Cycles) drove his Kawasakis to three wins again today. Mike used a KZ550 for the 600cc Box Stock race and a modified KZ650 for the 750cc Production and 750cc Superstreet races. He took home $300 from Kawasaki Motor Co. for the Box Stock and Production victories. Mark Shelton and Lee Fleming also were rewarded by Kawasaki for their efforts. In other action, Greg Overman piloted his Can-Am to yet another 200cc Production win with Jon Lisker the runnerup. Christine Baur placed third. Jim Siemens (Yam RD350) took 430cc Box Stock, Bob B.unyon (Bill smith RD430) easily won 600cc Superstreet and 500cc GP, and Rich Oliver (Kaw Z-I) finally sorted out his handling problems and won Open Superstreet. Open GP has been converted into "Z- I Heaven," as all finishen; of that class (including winner Kerry Bryant) were on the big Kawaski [our· strokers. The next AFM races at Golden State In!'!. Raceway are the final points race on October 12, followed on November 2 by the third annual endurance roadraCe, Enduro III. Results 125 PROD: 1. Glenn Pedley IC·Al; 2. Haim Ber"'; (Vaml; 3.
