Herdon on his American Honda/Lectron/Mike Kidd CR250·based bike showed the enthusiastic fans why he will probably be named AMA Novice of the Year. Herndon's victory did not come easily as Dallas. Yamaha·mounted Steve Gulledge and Braddy really put the pressure on. Braddy won the Trophy Dash as Herndon had a little trou ble on the rock·hard groove. Tfhere will be a "Welcome Home" party on October 11 for National Expert riders Mike Kidd and Terry Poovey. Y'all cornel Results MOTOCROSS 110 YOUTH: 1. Peter ThomfieId {SuzI; 2. John Phillips (Hon) rode a fine moto in the first 125cc Intermediate race. Phillips led the entire trip, but Tom Hetzer (Hon), off to a bad start, also did some fine riding to pass through and get second. Mark Larrl (Hon) claimed third. The second moto, Phillips took over and held the lead until just two laps before the finish when Hetzer passed him. Larrl then changed his third place position with Phillips to give him a 5·2 for third overall. Phillips finished 1·5 for second and Hetzer captured first overall with his 2·1. Ronnie Ebner (Yam) led the first 125cc Novice class through the turns with Kevin Jacobs (Suz), John Dikes (Yam) and Bob Mitchell (Suz) in pursuit. Ebner's misfortune on the fifth lap caused him to finish at the back of the pack and put Jacobs in first place. Dikes, now running second, turned to find Mitchell hot on his tracksl Mitchell passed, but was shot down and forced to DNF. Brett Wagner (Suz), worked his way through after a bad start to finish third. The second moto, Kyle Ratcliff (Suz) gained the lead with Dikes chasing and Ebner chasing him. Ebner passed Dikes and riding strong, closed in, put a move on Ratcliff and captured a well deserved win. Ratcliff took second, Dikes third. Results MICRO MINI: 1. J""V Bonner (SUl); 2.
